Job or Business: Which One My Chart Supports

The question arrives in two shapes and they need different answers. One person has a salary, a manager and a growing suspicion that the work is not theirs, and wants to know whether to leave. Another is already out of work, has no capital, and is asking whether to keep applying or to start something small because applying has stopped producing interviews. The first is asking whether to give something up. The second is asking which of two doors is likelier to open in the next year.

Nothing in a birth chart is labelled "job" or "business". What the chart holds is the shape of your earning: whether the money reaches you through a structure somebody else built, or across a table from a customer who can walk away. Those two shapes are read from two different houses, they can both be present in one chart, and in four charts out of ten the reading does not pick between them at all. All three of those outcomes are useful, and the third one is the one almost nothing written on this subject admits to.

There is a second thing worth saying before the astrology starts, because it changes what you should expect from the rest of this page. The lists of job-versus-business markers you have read elsewhere, including the three AstroMedha pages this one replaces, were measured against 100,000 charts computed by our own engine. Seventeen of the nineteen markers move the answer by less than two percentage points. Six of the twelve bullets our own published page prints move it in the opposite direction to the one the page claims. The measurement is further down with the method beside it, and it is the reason this page is structured the way it is.

What survives the measurement is smaller, harder to type into a search box, and considerably more useful. It comes down to one value that is a function of the minute you were born, plus your rising sign, plus the period you are running now. The first two decide the shape. The third decides whether this year is the year to act on it.

Every position quoted here is sidereal, computed with the Lahiri ayanamsa against the Swiss ephemeris, which is the same calculation behind every free tool on this site. Where a date appears it is a computed period boundary, not an estimate.

The houses this question actually lives in

A house is one of twelve segments counted from your lagna, the sign that was rising on the eastern horizon at the minute and the place you were born. Five of the twelve carry a piece of this question, and it helps to see what each one is holding, because they are usually blurred together into a single phrase about a "strong career".

The pair that decides the fork is the 6th and the 7th. This surprises most people, because the house they have been told to look at is the 10th. The 10th house is about the position you hold and how visible it is, and a founder and a general manager both hold a position. It does not separate them. The 6th and the 7th do: work sourced from the 6th comes to you inside somebody's structure, and work sourced from the 7th comes to you across a market.

That is why the 10th house is the wrong place to look for this particular answer and the right place to look for a different one. A strong 10th house tells you the standing holds once you have it. It says nothing about who signs the letter, and the measurement further down puts a number on exactly how little it says.

The 3rd house is where the confusion usually starts. It is genuinely the house of self-driven effort, and every list you will read pairs it with business for that reason. Two or more planets in your 3rd house is a real configuration and it is telling you something real about initiative. What it is not doing is predicting the route, and it turns out to lean the other way, which is in the measured table further down with its number attached.

Your own 10th lord and 7th lord, before any measurement

Every sign is ruled by a planet. The planet ruling the sign on your 10th house is your 10th lord, the planet ruling the sign on your 7th is your 7th lord, and the classical form of this question is a comparison between the two. Here are both, for all twelve rising signs, so you can find yours without a calculation.

Two rows are bold because they break the rule before it is applied. If you have Gemini rising, Jupiter rules both your 10th house and your 7th. If you have Sagittarius rising, Mercury rules both. One planet cannot be stronger than itself, so for those two lagnas the comparison at the heart of this question has no answer at all. That is not an edge case: across the 100,000 charts computed for this page, 18.0% carry a lagna where the 10th lord and the 7th lord are the same planet.

If you do not know your rising sign, it is the first line the free kundli prints, and it needs your birth time and place because it changes roughly every two hours.

The markers, and what each one is actually claiming

Four planets and three house positions make up every job-versus-business list in circulation. Here is what each one is for, taken from the engine's own tables rather than asserted, so that the measurement in the next section is measuring something specific.

The Sun stands for authority that is named and answerable. Where the career reading names what a Sun-led working life pays through, the sentence is that your work pays best where the call is yours and people know it was. That describes a chief executive and a district officer equally well, which is worth holding on to, because it is the first hint that these markers are describing temperament rather than employment status.

Saturn carries discipline, structure and slow durable building. Its own line in the career reading is that your work pays best through staying: long service, and structure that lasts. Rules, hierarchy, seniority and fixed procedure are Saturn's territory, and that is why every list pairs Saturn with the Sun on the employment side of the fork.

Mercury is the planet of dealing. Its line is that your work pays best through dealing, explaining and moving information, and it is the reason Mercury appears on every business list ever written: trade, negotiation, pricing and the moving of goods between people who want them are all one planet's department.

Rahu is the appetite for the unestablished. Its line is that your work pays best at the edge of a new market or a new technology, where there is no settled way to do it yet. That is a real description of a certain kind of founder, and it is also a real description of the first employee at a company nobody has heard of.

The 3rd house occupied is read as self-driven initiative, the 7th lord dignified as an ability to hold a market, and the 10th lord dignified as a position that holds once you have it. Dignity here means the engine's own four-way classification of how a planet sits in the sign it occupies: exalted, in its own sign, neutral, or debilitated, meaning in the sign opposite its exaltation.

Read that list again and notice what has happened. Every marker on it describes a quality of the person. Not one of them describes an employer. The measurement below is what happens when you check whether those qualities actually sort people onto one side of the fork or the other.

The measurement: 100,000 charts

A second, independent read of the same chart is needed before any of that can be tested, because a marker cannot be checked against itself. AstroMedha's career reading computes the sub-lord of the 10th house cusp. That method takes each nakshatra, meaning each of the twenty-seven equal segments the zodiac is divided into, and splits it again into nine unequal sub-divisions in the Vimshottari proportions, which are the same proportions that set the length of your dasha periods. It then reads which planet owns the exact sub-division your 10th house cusp falls in.

The houses that planet signifies, together with the houses its star lord signifies, decide what the career runs on. Where the chain touches the 6th, the reading is salaried or in service, working inside somebody's structure. Where it touches the 7th, the reading is on your own account, dealing directly with clients or a market. Where it touches both, the reading is both at once, and most likely one of each across a working life. Where it touches neither, the reading declines to pick, and prints nothing rather than a sentence that sounds like an answer.

That is a different rule from the markers above, applied to the same birth minute, which makes it a fair second opinion rather than the same opinion counted twice.

How the population was built. 100,000 births were drawn uniformly at random between 1 January 1985 and 31 December 2005, across ten Indian cities (New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad, Lucknow and Guwahati), each with a uniformly random clock minute in Indian Standard Time. Every chart was computed by the same engine that runs on this site, on seed 20260826, so the whole study reruns to the same numbers. Here is what the second opinion says across all of them.

Two things in that table are worth sitting with before the markers arrive. The own-account reading is more common than the salaried reading, by 7.6 percentage points, which is the opposite of how the working population actually splits and is a useful reminder that this is a statement about chart geometry and not about the Indian labour market. And two charts in five get no verdict. That is the honest base rate for this question, and any page that implies every chart has a side is quietly hiding it.

Now the markers, one at a time

Each row below takes the charts carrying that marker and asks what their 10th cusp chain reads as. The last two columns are the movement against the base rates in the table above, in percentage points. A marker that sorted people would produce large numbers there.

Seventeen of those nineteen rows move the answer by under two percentage points. Nine of them move it by under one. The largest single movement on the whole table is 3.7 points, and it belongs to two or more planets in the 3rd house, the marker every business list names, moving charts away from the own-account reading rather than towards it.

So the finding this page exists to publish, stated plainly: the classical job-versus-business markers describe how you like to work, and do not sort people onto one side of the fork. A dignified Mercury says you deal well. A dignified Saturn says you are paid for staying. Both of those are true of a distributor with a warehouse and equally true of a procurement manager who has held the same desk for fifteen years, and no arrangement of them in a birth chart knows which one you are looking at.

The rule this question is named for

The strongest form of the classical claim is not a marker list at all. It is a comparison: whichever of your 10th lord and your 7th lord is better placed names your route. That deserves testing on its own, because it is the sentence almost every astrologer answering this question actually says out loud.

Scored on the engine's own dignity-to-points scale, where exalted is three points, own sign is two, neutral is zero and debilitated is minus two, the comparison lands like this.

The rule returns nothing at all for 59.1% of charts, because the two lords tie on dignity or are the same planet. That alone should end its career as an answer, and it usually does not, because a tie is invisible when you are looking at one chart instead of a hundred thousand.

Then take the charts where the rule does produce a verdict and the 10th cusp chain also produces one, which is 17,315 charts, or 17.3% of the sample. The two methods agree on 8,503 of them. That is 49.1%, which is what a coin would score. On the one question this whole tradition of pages is built to answer, the most-repeated rule carries no information at all.

Two honest limits on all of the above, because they decide how far you can carry it. The births were drawn uniformly across the clock, and real births are not uniform across the clock, so these percentages describe the geometry of charts rather than the birth-time distribution of any real population. And nothing in this study links a chart to whether that person actually ended up salaried or self-employed, because no dataset of that kind exists here or anywhere at this scale. What is being measured is whether the markers agree with each other and with a second computed method, and the answer is that they do not. That is the claim, and it is not a claim about outcomes.

Our own published page, bullet by bullet

AstroMedha has a page called "Business or Job? What Your Vedic Chart Reveals", and in the twenty-nine healthy days before 23 August 2026 it was the best performer on this subject on the site, at 1,566 Search Console impressions and 14 clicks, average position 6.3. It prints two lists, one headed indicators that lean toward business and one headed indicators that lean toward employment. Every bullet on both lists was run against a second, independently drawn 100,000 charts, on the same engine and the same seed. Reporting the result on our own page is the point: a marker list that fails is worth more to you as a measured failure than as a confident paragraph.

Three of the twelve carry a real signal and the page should have led with them. The 6th lord dignified and standing in the 10th house moves a chart 12.2 points away from the own-account reading and 5.3 points towards salaried, which is by far the strongest single statement in the whole study, and it applies to one chart in a hundred. A chart with few planets in its angles and two or more in the 6th or 12th moves 4.6 points towards salaried, and that one applies to nearly a quarter of charts, which makes it the most useful bullet on the list. Rahu in the 10th or the 7th moves a chart 3.9 points away from salaried, which is the right direction for what the bullet claims, arriving through the salaried column rather than the business one.

Six of the twelve move the answer in the opposite direction to the one the page claims. For three of those six the movement is under a point and for a fourth it is 1.4, so the honest reading is that those four do nothing at all rather than that they are backwards. Two of them are backwards by a margin that matters. Two or more planets in the 3rd house is listed as a business indicator and moves charts 3.7 points away from own-account. The 2nd and 11th lords being connected is listed as a business indicator and moves charts 7.7 points away from own-account, which is the second largest movement anywhere in this study.

The two pages this one also replaces are shorter versions of the same list. "Business vs job: which suits you" names Saturn and the Sun for employment and Mercury, Rahu, the 7th house and the 11th house for business, all of which are in the measured table above. "Side business alongside a job" names a strong 7th and 11th house with Mercury or Rahu influence, held alongside a 10th-house job, which is the "both" reading in the table above, and that reading turns out to be the most interesting one in the study for reasons the next section gets to.

What does move the answer

Two things move it, and neither is on any list. The first is your rising sign, and the size of what it does is startling next to the marker table above.

An Aries lagna reads as salaried more than three times as often as a Leo lagna. A Scorpio lagna reads as own-account four times as often as a Leo lagna. That is a nineteen-point spread on the salaried column and a thirty-point spread on the own-account column, against a largest-marker movement of 3.7 points. The rising sign is doing an order of magnitude more work here than every combination in the tradition put together.

The reason is mechanical rather than mystical. The route is decided by which houses a planet signifies, and which houses a planet signifies depends entirely on where your 1st house starts. Move the lagna and the same planet in the same degree of the same sign now owns different houses. So the lagna is not one more marker to be weighed against the others. It is the frame that decides what every other placement means, and reading a marker without it is reading a number without its units.

Leo is worth a sentence of its own, because it holds the lowest share on both sides at once, 8.6% salaried and 10.0% own account, and 56.2% of Leo-rising charts get no verdict, second only to Aquarius at 57.6%. Leo's 6th house is Capricorn and its 7th is Aquarius, and Saturn rules both of them, so a chain that fails to reach Saturn misses both earning routes together and lands on nothing. That is a structural feature of one rising sign rather than a defect in a person's chart, and it is why a Leo-rising reader should expect this method to hand the decision to the timing half rather than to the shape half.

The second thing, which is the whole answer

The other variable that moves it is the sub-lord of your 10th house cusp, and it moves it far more than any natal marker does.

The salaried column runs from 10.2% to 23.4%, a spread of 13.2 points. The own-account column runs from 20.2% to 32.8%, a spread of 12.6 points. The "both" column runs from 8.9% to 23.0%, a spread of 14.1 points. Every one of those is three to four times the largest movement any classical marker managed.

Saturn is the row that repays a second look, because it inverts what everyone expects. Saturn is the planet the whole tradition assigns to employment, and a Saturn sub-lord on the 10th cusp produces the lowest salaried share of any planet and the highest both-routes share. The reading it prints is that your work pays best through staying: long service, and structure that lasts. Staying is not the same as being employed. A person who runs one business for twenty years is doing exactly what that sentence describes, and the chain that produces it reaches the 6th and the 7th at once more often than any other.

The catch, and why it earns a birth time rather than a birth date

A sub-division of a nakshatra is a small piece of sky. The narrowest of them, Ketu's, is 47 minutes of arc wide. A house cusp travels roughly one degree every four minutes of clock time. So the sub-lord of your 10th cusp changes several times an hour, and the route verdict changes with it.

That is measurable, so it was measured. 20,000 charts were recomputed at the birth minute and again at fixed offsets either side of it, and the question asked was simply whether the verdict came back different.

Then the same thing from the other direction. Three birth dates were taken, one place each, and the chart was recomputed for every one of the 1,440 minutes in the day.

All four verdicts occur on every one of those days, and they occur in short alternating stretches rather than in four long blocks. The longest unbroken run on any of the three days is 50 minutes. The median is eight.

Put the two layers side by side and the shape of the whole problem appears.

The layer that carries no information is the stable one, and the layer that carries the information changes every eight minutes. A question asked without a birth time cannot reach the route layer at all, and a general summary of this topic cannot reach it for anybody, because the value it needs is not a fact about astrology. It is a fact about you, four digits long, that nobody has unless you supply it.

What to do if your birth time is approximate

Most people in India have a birth time recorded to the nearest five or ten minutes, some to the nearest hour, and some not at all. The table above says plainly what that costs, so here is what to do with each case rather than leaving you with a worry.

Recorded to the minute, from a hospital record or a birth certificate. Use the 10th cusp route. It is the only layer that decides this fork and your data reaches it.

Recorded to the nearest five or ten minutes, which is most people. Treat the route as one input rather than the answer. The reading computes it either side of your recorded time, and where the verdict holds across that window it is worth acting on, and where it flips it is worth ignoring. Eight minutes is the median run, so a ten-minute uncertainty straddles a boundary about as often as it does not.

Recorded to the nearest hour or unknown. The route layer is unavailable to you and no amount of confident writing changes that.

The timing half is often offered as the consolation here, and it should not be, because it is more time-sensitive than it looks. The whole period ladder is anchored to the exact longitude of your Moon, and the Moon covers roughly thirteen degrees a day. 5,000 charts were recomputed at fixed offsets to put a number on it.

So an hour of uncertainty changes which period you are told you are running for one person in three, and moves the next dated boundary by nearly six months for the median chart. Ten minutes of uncertainty is fine for timing and marginal for the route, which is the reverse of what most people assume.

What does survive an unknown birth time is your Moon sign, which changes about every two and a quarter days, and the signs your planets stand in, which move slowly enough that a few hours rarely matters. Those answer the questions the Moon-sign reading answers, and they do not answer this one. The honest advice for this case is to narrow the time before asking this particular question, rather than to accept a verdict built on a guess.

If you want to narrow the time itself rather than work around it, the way to do it is backwards from dated events you can already verify: a job that started on a known date, a move, a marriage. Four charts, worked all the way through

Four births were searched for out of the same population, each chosen to be a different one of the four outcomes. Every value below is computed, and the birth details are printed so you can put them into the free kundli and get the same numbers.

One: every layer agrees, and the answer is service

14 July 1994, 03:33, Hyderabad. Taurus rising at 25.58 degrees, in Mrigashira nakshatra. The 10th house is Aquarius and its lord is Saturn, and Saturn is standing in Aquarius, in its own sign, in the 10th house itself, at 18.27 degrees, retrograde. The 7th house is Scorpio and its lord Mars is in Taurus in the 1st house, neutral. The 3rd house is empty, and so is the 7th.

The classical comparison is as one-sided as it gets: a 10th lord in its own sign and in the house it rules, against a 7th lord with no dignity at all. Two points against zero on the engine's scale. Every list would call this a job chart, and this time the fine layer agrees. The 10th house cusp falls in Aquarius in Shatabhisha nakshatra, its star lord is Rahu and its sub-lord is Venus. That chain signifies the 1st, 3rd and 6th houses. The 6th is an earning house and nothing in the chain touches the 5th, 8th or 12th, so the verdict the engine prints is "pays", the earning house it names is the 6th, meaning the job you are paid for, and the route is salaried or in service, working inside somebody's structure.

What the reading adds on top of the side is what kind of employment. The sub-lord is Venus, and the line Venus prints is that your work pays best where taste and trust decide what it is worth. Set that against the Saturn who rules this chart's 10th and carries the Sasa yoga, one of the five great-person combinations, formed when Saturn is dignified in an angle. Structure and long service on one side, taste and trust on the other. That is a description of a senior professional inside an institution whose standing rests on judgement rather than on output volume, and it is a considerably more actionable sentence than the word "job".

The timing sits underneath it. This chart is in a Rahu mahadasha, meaning the major period of Rahu, running from 22 February 2016 to 22 February 2034, and this chart's Rahu stands in the 6th house, which is the employment house itself. The antardasha, meaning the sub-period inside that major period, turned over to Ketu on 23 August 2026 and runs to 11 September 2027, with Ketu in the 12th house. A 6th-house major period with a 12th-house sub-period inside it reads as employment that continues while something is being withdrawn from, which is the ordinary shape of a role change inside a career rather than a change of career. The next major period, Jupiter, does not begin until 2034, so for this chart the shape is settled for the decade and the question worth asking is which employer, not which route.

Two: the classical rule points one way and the chart goes the other

13 November 1985, 12:16, New Delhi. Capricorn rising at 14.63 degrees, in Shravana. The 10th house is Libra and its lord Venus sits in Libra, in its own sign, in the 10th house, at 10.92 degrees in Swati, with the Sun and Ketu alongside it. The 7th house is Cancer and its lord is the Moon, and the Moon is in Scorpio in the 11th house, debilitated, meaning in the sign opposite its exaltation.

Score that on the engine's dignity scale and the gap is two points against minus two, which is the widest margin the classical comparison can produce. This chart carries the Malavya yoga, which forms when Venus is dignified in an angle, and Venus is also the yogakaraka for a Capricorn lagna, meaning the one planet that rules both an angle and a trine and therefore lifts everything it touches. A stronger case for the salaried side does not exist on paper.

The 10th cusp says the opposite. It falls in Libra in Vishakha, its star lord is Jupiter and its sub-lord is the Moon, and that chain signifies the 1st, 7th, 10th and 12th houses. The 7th is there and the 6th is not. The route the engine prints is on your own account, dealing directly with clients or a market, with the earning house named as the 10th, meaning your career and standing, and the 12th flagged as what holds it back, meaning outgoings and time away. The verdict string is "pays, but not in a straight line", and the Moon's own line is that your work pays best where you are looking after people or a public.

The two readings are not actually in conflict once you stop treating the comparison as a verdict. Venus dignified in the 10th says the standing is real and will hold. The cusp chain says the standing is held in front of a market rather than inside a structure. Put them together and the chart describes a practice: a person known by name, paid by clients, whose reputation is the asset. What the classical rule got wrong was not the strength of the 10th lord. It was the assumption that a strong 10th lord means an employer.

The timing here is unusually clean, and it is the reason this chart is worth printing. The Venus mahadasha runs from 8 October 2023 to 8 October 2043, and Venus is the 10th lord, dignified, standing in the 10th house. The Venus antardasha inside it runs to 7 February 2027, so the same planet is holding both levels at once until then, which happens for about one person in eight at any given moment. A twenty-year period belonging to a dignified 10th lord, on a chart whose route reads as own-account, is as direct a statement as this method makes: the practice is the work of this person's middle life, and it started three years ago whether or not it was named at the time.

Three: the answer is both, and the question changes

11 March 1994, 15:50, Guwahati. Leo rising at 5.53 degrees, in Magha. The 7th house is Aquarius and it holds five planets: the Sun, the Moon, Mars, Mercury and Saturn. Its lord Saturn is in Aquarius, in its own sign, in the 7th house itself. The 10th house is Taurus and its lord Venus is exalted in Pisces in the 8th house. The 3rd house holds Jupiter.

The 10th cusp falls in Taurus in Krittika, its star lord is the Sun and its sub-lord is Saturn, sitting in the 7th house. That chain signifies the 1st, 6th and 7th houses. Both earning routes are present, so the route the engine prints is both at once, and most likely one of each in your life. The verdict is "pays", with the 6th named as the earning house, and Saturn's line is that your work pays best through staying: long service, and structure that lasts.

A reader who wanted one word is entitled to feel short-changed here, so it is worth being exact about what "both" is claiming. It is not a hedge and it is not the absence of an answer. It is the statement that the chain reaches an employment house and a market house with roughly equal grip, and the population data behind it says that happens to 14.6% of charts and to 23.0% of charts with a Saturn sub-lord, which is the highest both-rate of any planet. For this chart the practical reading is the one the side-business page was reaching for and could not compute: a salaried base with something owned running alongside it, in either order, with Saturn's staying power making the owned thing a slow build rather than a leap.

The dasha says which of the two is being paid for right now, and it is emphatic. The Saturn mahadasha runs from 23 January 2014 to 23 January 2033, and Saturn is the 7th lord, in its own sign, standing in the 7th house. The Mars antardasha inside it began on 28 July 2026 and runs to 6 September 2027, and Mars is also in the 7th house, in Aquarius. Both the major period lord and the current sub-period lord occupy the market house. For a chart whose route reads as both, that is the window in which the owned half is the half to push, and it closes in September 2027. The next major period, Mercury, arrives in January 2033 and is a different conversation entirely.

Four: the chart declines to pick, which is the four-in-ten case

12 August 1996, 02:43, Guwahati. Gemini rising at 26.51 degrees, in Punarvasu. This is one of the two lagnas from the table near the top of this page where a single planet rules both houses: Jupiter rules the 10th house (Pisces) and the 7th house (Sagittarius) at once. Jupiter is in Sagittarius, in its own sign, in the 7th house, retrograde. So the classical comparison has nothing to compare.

The fine layer declines as well. The 10th cusp falls in Pisces in Revati, and both its star lord and its sub-lord are Mercury, standing in the 3rd house. That chain signifies the 1st, 3rd and 4th houses. None of those is an earning house and none of them is a holding house, so the engine prints the verdict "pays quietly" and prints no route at all. It does not guess, and that refusal is deliberate. An earlier version of this code printed a sentence for this case that arrived where an answer was promised and carried none, and three of the five charts tested during that work landed on it, so the line was removed rather than reworded.

So this is the four-in-ten chart, and the useful question is what remains. Three things do, and together they are more specific than a side would have been.

Mercury is this chart's lagna lord, its 10th cusp sub-lord, and the lord of its running mahadasha, which spans 22 August 2020 to 22 August 2037. It sits in the 3rd house, the house of self-driven effort. Mercury's line is that your work pays best through dealing, explaining and moving information. One planet holding the identity, the career cusp and the seventeen-year period, from the house of own initiative, is a far stronger statement about this working life than any verdict about employment status.

Saturn stands in the 10th house, retrograde, alongside Ketu, and the chart carries the Hamsa yoga, formed by a dignified Jupiter in an angle. Jupiter in the 7th own sign, retrograde, is a market-facing planet turned inward. Read together with a 3rd-house Mercury, the shape is a person whose work reaches a market through skill and explanation rather than through a sales relationship, and who can hold that shape inside a company or outside one. That is genuinely why the cusp declines. The chart is not undecided about the work. It is indifferent to the employment wrapper around it.

The tenth-division chart, called the dasamsha or D-10, is built by cutting each sign into ten three-degree segments and mapping the segment a planet falls in onto a new sign, and it is the chart the tradition reads for work alone. Here it has Aquarius rising, and the one planet strong in it is Mars, at home in Scorpio. In the career reading Mars carries drive and the appetite for a fight. On a chart whose main answer is skill-led and market-indifferent, a strong Mars in the career chart is the piece that says the work needs a hard problem in it, and goes flat without one.

The timing: the Venus sub-period ends on 15 November 2026 and the next boundary after that is the one to plan against, with the Mercury major period holding until 2037.

What the four prove together

Read side by side, the four charts show the same thing the 100,000-chart study showed, in a form you can check by hand. Chart one had a one-sided classical comparison and the fine layer agreed. Chart two had a wider classical comparison, the widest the rule can produce, and the fine layer went the other way. Chart three had a narrow comparison and the fine layer refused to choose between the routes. Chart four could not run the comparison at all and the fine layer declined too.

The comparison produced a verdict on three of the four charts, and only two of those three had a route to be compared against. It got one of the two right. That is the 49.1% from the measurement showing up in charts you can recompute by hand, which is what a real finding does.

The timing half: which year, not which side

The shape of your earning is one question and the year to act is a different one, and they are answered by different machinery. Timing runs on the Vimshottari dasha system, meaning the sequence of planetary periods computed from the exact position of your Moon at birth, which is why it needs your birth date and place but is far less sensitive to the minute than the cusp layer is.

40,000 charts were computed for people born between 1975 and 2005, and their periods were read as at 26 August 2026. Here is what that says about where the decision-relevant dates actually fall.

Three in five people have a dated sub-period change inside the next twelve months, and six in seven inside the next twenty-four. That is the timescale this decision is usually made on, and it is the reason a job-versus-business answer that names no date is only half an answer. Major periods run on a different clock: the median wait is close to seven years, and only one person in thirteen has one inside twelve months. So if your question is what to do this year, the sub-period boundary is the one to plan against.

The second question is which house the planet running your period actually occupies, because that is what makes a period say something about work rather than about anything else. Across those 40,000 charts, the major-period lord stands in the 6th or the 10th house, the two work houses, for 16.4% of people, and in the 3rd, 7th or 11th, the three enterprise-and-gains houses, for 25.0%. The sub-period lord splits almost identically, 16.8% and 24.6%.

That distribution is close to flat across all twelve houses, between 8.1% and 8.6% per house, and the flatness is the useful part rather than a disappointment. It means the house your period lord occupies is genuinely a one-in-twelve fact about you, carrying no population-level lean that a general article could summarise on your behalf. It also means the two layers stack without repeating each other: the cusp says which route, the period lord's house says whether that route is what the current chapter is about at all.

The combination is where it gets specific. In 4.6% of charts both the major-period lord and the sub-period lord sit in work houses, which reads as a chapter about the job itself. In 8.5% both sit in enterprise houses, which reads as a chapter about what you build and what it earns. In 7.2% they point in opposite directions, one to work and one to enterprise, which is the most common shape behind the sentence "I have a job and I am building something on the side". And in 37.6% neither lord touches any of those five houses, which reads as a chapter whose subject is not work, and that is worth knowing before you attribute a flat year at the office to the wrong cause.

One more piece, because it changes how to read a chart like the second one above. For 12.9% of people at any moment, the major period and the sub-period belong to the same planet. That is the loudest configuration this system produces, one planet holding both levels, and it is the reason the 13 November 1985 chart reads as unambiguously as it does.

If you are deciding this month

The measurement above says what the chart cannot do, and this section says what to do with what it can. Three situations cover almost every version of the question that arrives.

You have a job and you are considering leaving to start something. The chart contributes two things and neither of them is permission. The first is the route: whether your 10th cusp chain reaches the 7th house at all, and if it reaches both the 6th and the 7th, that is the "both" reading, and the practical translation of "both" is sequence rather than choice. The second is the date: where your next sub-period boundary falls and which house its lord occupies. If the boundary is inside twelve months, which it is for three people in five, the useful plan is usually to build inside the current period and move at the boundary rather than to move now. Three numbers sit outside all of this and decide it anyway: your runway in months, what you can lose without it changing your life, and whether the thing you would build has one paying customer today. Get those three settled first, and let the chart choose the month.

You are out of work and asking which door is likelier to open. This is a timing question wearing a route question's clothes, and it should be answered as timing. A route reading of own-account does not mean applications are wasted; it means the market-facing version of your work is the one your chart is built around, and that can be a role at a company that sells. You already run something and are wondering whether to take a job. Read the "both" row rather than the route. A chart reading both routes is describing a working life that carries an employment strand and an own-account strand, and 14.6% of charts do. The question then is which strand the current period is paying for, which is the period lord's house, and that is a dated answer rather than a permanent one.

In all three cases the chart is narrowing a decision rather than making it. The useful frame is that it tells you which of your options is swimming with the current, and how long the current runs for. It does not tell you whether the boat is seaworthy.

What the reading computes that this page cannot

• Your dated ladder: the current major period and sub-period, the house each lord occupies, and the next boundary with its date, rather than a general statement that periods matter.
