Opening a shop or launching a venture, Vyapar Arambh, wants gain-giving energy. The timing favours Mercury and Jupiter, the planets of commerce and expansion, quick or fixed nakshatras, and the waxing Moon for early momentum.

What a business muhurat looks for

  • Nakshatra. Favoured stars include Ashwini, Rohini, Mrigashira, Pushya, Hasta, Chitra, Swati, Anuradha, Uttara Phalguni, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada, Shravana, Dhanishta and Revati. Pushya is especially prized for a first transaction. Bharani, Krittika, Ardra, Ashlesha, Magha, Moola and Jyeshtha are avoided.
  • Weekday. Wednesday (Mercury) and Thursday (Jupiter) carry the clearest commercial benefit, with Monday and Friday close behind. Tuesday and Saturday are weaker.
  • Tithi. The waxing fortnight on a favourable tithi supports growth. The Rikta tithis and Amavasya are set aside.

Pushya: the merchant's nakshatra

When Pushya falls on a Thursday it is Guru Pushya, and on a Sunday, Ravi Pushya. Both are treasured for launches, first sales and buying stock. In 2026 Guru Pushya falls on 21 May, and Ravi Pushya on 4 January, 1 February and 1 November.

Common questions

Which day is best to open a shop or business?
Wednesday (Mercury) and Thursday (Jupiter) are the strongest weekdays for commerce, with Monday and Friday close behind. A favourable nakshatra such as Pushya or Hasta on the waxing Moon strengthens the day.
What is Guru Pushya and why does it matter for business?
Guru Pushya is Pushya nakshatra falling on a Thursday, one of the most auspicious windows for launches, first sales and buying stock. In 2026 it falls on 21 May.
Which nakshatras should a business launch avoid?
Bharani, Krittika, Ardra, Ashlesha, Magha, Moola and Jyeshtha are avoided for opening a venture. Favour Pushya, Hasta, Chitra, Anuradha, Rohini and Dhanishta instead.
Does my own birth chart matter for a business muhurat?
Yes. A generic good day becomes a good day for you when it also respects your Tara Bala, Chandra Bala and avoids your Chandrashtama. The personalised Muhurat Finder weighs these from your birth Moon.
