Rashi Calculator

Your Vedic Moon sign (Rashi) by date of birth — with your Sun sign and rising sign.

Date alone gives your Rashi and Sun sign; add time for your Lagna.

Moon Sign, Not Sun Sign

When Indians ask “what is your rashi?” they mean your Moon sign, computed on the sidereal zodiac. It is the sign your daily rashifal is written for and the one used in kundli matching. This calculator returns your Rashi and the nakshatra inside it, your Sun sign, and — if you know your birth time — your Lagna, the rising sign that frames the twelve houses of your chart.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Rashi?

Your Rashi is your Vedic Moon sign — the sidereal zodiac sign the Moon occupied at birth. Indian astrology is Moon-centred, so your Rashi, not your Sun sign, is what horoscopes and matchmaking use. It governs your mind, emotions and instinctive nature.

Why is my Rashi different from my Western zodiac sign?

Two reasons. Vedic astrology reads the Moon, not the Sun, and it uses the sidereal zodiac (aligned to the actual stars) rather than the tropical one, which sits about 24° apart. So your Vedic Moon sign is usually different from the Sun sign you know.

What is the difference between Rashi, Sun sign and Lagna?

Rashi is your Moon sign (mind and emotion). Your Sun sign is the sign the Sun was in (ego and vitality). Your Lagna, or ascendant, is the sign rising on the horizon at your birth time and it anchors the houses of your chart. All three together give the full picture.

Do I need my birth time?

Date of birth is enough for your Rashi (Moon sign) and Sun sign. Your birth time is needed for the Lagna, because the ascendant changes roughly every two hours.
