CA and CS Exams: What Your Chart Says About the Attempt

A student wrote to us on 11 August: "i am currently doing CA inter and have been stuck in this stage for 3 years, is CA right career for me as per my chart and also tell me if yes specifically what should i do." Another, five weeks earlier: "i am not able to focus on ca inter."

Those are two different questions wearing one coat. Whether the qualification suits you is a question about the fixed shape of your chart, and the fixed shape does not move between now and your next attempt. Whether this attempt is well placed is a question about dates, and that is where a chart is actually useful to a CA or CS candidate, because you sit more than once a year and the sittings are not equivalent to each other.

This page gives you the dated half in public. Everything in it was computed from the Swiss ephemeris against the sidereal zodiac, which is the reference frame Vedic astrology uses and the one that puts the Sun in Leo on 2 September 2026 rather than in Virgo. If you know your rising sign you can read your own windows out of the tables without entering anything.

What a chart can settle about a CA or CS attempt, and what it cannot

It cannot tell you that you will clear. No Vedic method marks one guaranteed sitting and rules out the rest, and anybody who tells a nineteen-year-old otherwise is selling certainty they do not have. Attempt outcomes at these institutes are decided by preparation, paper difficulty and the moderation policy of the year, and none of those three sits in a birth chart.

What the method does produce is narrower and more usable. It gives you a dated map of four things: which planetary period you are running on each paper date, where the two slow-moving planets sit relative to the houses that carry study and money in your own chart, what condition Mercury is in on the day you write, and where the boundaries between periods fall relative to the enrolment deadlines. That map is different for every candidate sitting the same paper, and the differences are large enough to change what you do with the twelve months before it.

The practical use is comparative, not predictive. If you are going to attempt twice in the next nine months anyway, the map tells you which of the two is better supported and therefore which one deserves both groups rather than one.

Why CA and CS need different handling from a one-shot entrance

An entrance exam like NEET or the Civil Services preliminary is a single annual event. You prepare for a year, you sit once, and the chart question is simply whether that one date is well placed. CA and CS are built differently, and the difference changes the reading.

One difference is frequency. ICAI runs Foundation and Intermediate three times a year and Final twice, and ICSI runs Executive and Professional twice. A candidate deciding in August 2026 is not choosing whether to sit. They are choosing between September 2026, January 2027 and the sitting after that, and a comparison across sittings is exactly what a dated period ladder gives you.

Another is the group split. CA Intermediate and Final are each divided into two groups that can be attempted together or separately, and the two groups fall on different days of the same sitting. That sounds like a technicality until you look at where the planets actually are. In the September 2026 Intermediate sitting, Group I papers fall on 1, 3 and 6 September and Group II on 8, 10 and 12 September, and Mercury changes sign in between, on 7 September. The two groups of one sitting are written under measurably different conditions.

The last is that CA is a working qualification. Articleship, which is the paid training period a student serves inside a practising firm, runs alongside the Intermediate and Final stages, so the 10th house of profession is live at the same time as the houses of study. For a NEET aspirant the chart question is purely about learning. For a CA candidate it is about learning and working in the same months, and the two can compete for the same planet.

The exam calendar this page is computed against

Every astrological fact on this page is pinned to a date, so the dates have to be right. These are the sittings in the current cycle, with their status.

Verify your own dates against icai.org or icsi.edu before you plan around them, because an institute can move a sitting and this page cannot. The rows marked as announced are the ones the day-by-day tables further down are computed on. For the three unannounced ones the slow-planet facts still hold across the whole month, because Saturn and Jupiter move only four to ten arcminutes a day across this cycle, so neither covers more than about three degrees in a month and neither cares which day of January your paper falls on. One exception is flagged where it arises: Saturn changes sign on 3 June 2027, inside the week ICSI has historically used for its June session.

The sky over the whole attempt cycle

Two slow planets set the background for a preparation cycle. Saturn barely moves across this one, and Jupiter moves twice.

Saturn is in Pisces for every announced sitting in the cycle, and for the January 2027 and May 2027 sittings too. It is currently retrograde, which means it appears from Earth to move backward against the fixed stars, a computed state rather than a figure of speech. It turns direct on 11 December 2026 at roughly 14 degrees of Pisces, and it stays in Pisces until 3 June 2027.

The consequence for planning is worth stating plainly: whatever house Saturn occupies in your chart today, it occupies for every sitting up to May 2027. If Saturn sitting in your 6th house of competition is helping you, that help does not expire before June 2027. If Saturn sitting in a difficult house is making the work feel heavier than it is, that does not expire before June 2027 either, and no attempt inside the cycle escapes it by being later.

Saturn's move into Aries is messier than one date suggests. It enters Aries on 3 June 2027, steps back into Pisces on 20 October 2027, and returns to Aries on 23 February 2028. So a candidate planning past May 2027 is planning across a boundary that is crossed three times, not once. Saturn is debilitated in Aries, which means it sits in the sign classically reckoned to be its weakest, so the character of Saturn's contribution genuinely changes at that boundary rather than merely relocating.

Jupiter moves twice inside the cycle, and its condition changes with the move. Jupiter is in Cancer now, where it is exalted, meaning it sits in the sign where the tradition reckons it strongest. It enters Leo on 31 October 2026, where it is ordinary rather than strong. It turns retrograde on 13 December 2026, steps back into Cancer on 25 January 2027, turns direct on 13 April 2027, and re-enters Leo on 26 June 2027.

The September 2026 sitting therefore happens under an exalted Jupiter, and the November and December sittings under an ordinary one. That is not a verdict on either sitting. It is one input among several, and it is not the one that moves most.

Mercury on all twenty-three announced paper days

Mercury is the planet that carries calculation, memory, written argument and paperwork, which makes it the one a commerce exam is most directly about. Its condition on a given day is not a matter of opinion. It has a sign, a dignity, a direction of travel and a measurable distance from the Sun, and all four were computed for every announced paper day in this cycle.

Two terms need defining before the table makes sense. Combust, meaning that a planet sits close enough to the Sun for its own significations to be swamped by the Sun's, is measured here with an orb of 14 degrees for Mercury, and the table calls it burnt. Exalted, meaning that the planet is in the sign the tradition reckons its strongest, is Virgo in Mercury's case.

CA Intermediate and Foundation, September 2026

Mercury crosses from Leo into Virgo at 13:33 IST on 7 September, which is the day Foundation candidates write their third paper, and roughly half an hour before an afternoon session starts. Every row above is computed for 14:00 IST, so the 7 September row is on the Virgo side of a crossing that had only just happened. Intermediate Group I writes entirely under a Mercury with no special dignity. Group II writes entirely under Mercury in the sign of its exaltation, and further out of the Sun's glare on every successive paper. If you are an Intermediate candidate sitting both groups in September, the second half of your sitting is the better-placed half on this measure, which is an argument for holding your weaker subjects to Group II rather than the reverse, where the syllabus lets you choose.

Exaltation means the sign where the tradition rates a planet strongest.

CA Final, November 2026

The entire November Final sitting falls inside a Mercury retrograde phase that runs from 24 October to 13 November 2026. On 4 November, the second Group I paper, Mercury passes within 0.6 degrees of the Sun, which is close enough to count as an exact conjunction of Mercury with the Sun. By 13 November, the last Group II paper, Mercury has slowed to a stop and turns forward that evening, and has moved far enough from the Sun to be clear of it.

Read that the way the tradition actually reads it, and not the way an internet post would. A backward Mercury favours going back over ground already covered and disfavours meeting material for the first time. It does not curse a paper, and your paper date is set by ICAI in any case. What it argues for is a preparation shape: in a November attempt, the marginal hour is better spent on revision, past papers and re-checking your own working than on opening a chapter you have not seen. It also argues for care with the form, the fee and the exam-centre details, because those are Mercury's business too and they are the part of the attempt you still control.

CS Executive and Professional, December 2026

Mercury is moving forward throughout the CS December sitting and gets closer to the Sun on every paper, from 6.4 degrees on the first day to 2.5 degrees on the last. The December session also sits ten days after Saturn turns forward on 11 December and eight days after Jupiter turns backward on 13 December, so both slow planets change gear in the fortnight before the papers begin.

What "Mercury combust" is worth, measured over ten years

A burnt Mercury sounds ominous until you count how often it happens. Mercury's condition was computed for every single day from 1 January 2020 to 1 January 2030, 3,653 days in all.

Mercury is burnt on close to half of all days. A candidate who refuses to sit a paper on a day when Mercury is burnt has ruled out nearly half the calendar, which is not a strategy, it is a way of never qualifying. The right conclusion from a burnt Mercury is that the day rewards the candidate who has already done the checking, and the wrong conclusion is that the day is lost.

Against that base rate, this cycle is genuinely lopsided. Of the 23 announced CA and CS paper days between September and December 2026, Mercury is burnt on 22 and backward on 6. That is well above the 43.9% you would expect from the calendar alone, and it happens because three separate close passes of Mercury and the Sun land in early September, early November and late December, which is exactly where the institutes have put their sittings this year.

The honest reading of that is not that this is a bad year to be a CA or CS candidate. It is that across four consecutive sittings the Mercury contribution is roughly constant and therefore does not discriminate between them. Choosing between your sittings has to be done on the two things that do differ across them: where the slow planets fall in your own chart, and which period of your own life-cycle ladder each sitting lands in.

Your commerce lords, without any calculation

Six houses carry a CA or CS attempt. The 2nd is what you retain and can say back, and it is also the house of accumulated money, which is why it is the commerce house proper. The 5th is what you grasp and the result of applying it. The 6th is competition and obstacles cleared by effort, which is the house an examination lives in. The 10th is the profession itself, live during articleship. The 11th is the house where a wanted thing arrives, which for a candidate means the result and the qualification. The 4th is the base you study on, the settled mind and the place you work in.

Which planet rules each of those houses depends only on your rising sign, so you can read your own row here without any computation. Find the sign that was climbing the eastern horizon at your birth minute, called your lagna, which is the anchor the whole house system is counted from.

Two rows deserve a note because they put Mercury, the planet a commerce exam is most directly about, on two of these five houses at once. For Taurus rising, Mercury rules both the 2nd and the 5th, so retention and grasp answer to the same planet. For Leo rising, Mercury rules both the 2nd and the 11th, which means the house of what you retain and the house of the result arriving are both governed by the planet that carries calculation. In those two charts the condition of Mercury carries more of the exam question than it does in the other ten, and it is worth knowing which case you are in before you weigh anything else.

Where Saturn and Jupiter land in your own chart

The same rising sign tells you which of your houses the two slow planets are sitting in. Saturn stays in Pisces for the whole announced cycle, so its column is fixed for all four sittings.

For a Libra rising candidate, Saturn is sitting in the 6th house of competition for every sitting up to May 2027. That is the useful face of Saturn for an examination, because the 6th is the house of rivals and endurance, and a candidate who out-sits the field is doing what that placement rewards. For a Scorpio rising candidate, Saturn is in the 5th of grasp and results, which asks for more hours before the same material goes in, and the honest reading of a slow patch under it is that it is the transit and not a limit on ability. For Aquarius rising, Saturn is in the 2nd of retention and money, and Jupiter reaches the 11th of results arriving between 31 October 2026 and 25 January 2027, which is the CS December window and the CA January window.

The one signature worth waiting for

The tradition's plainest timing rule is that a house delivers when both Saturn and Jupiter reach it at the same time, either by sitting in it or by casting an aspect on it. Jupiter opens the door and Saturn makes the result stick, and neither planet alone is the signature. Aspects in this system are directional and not symmetric: Jupiter casts on the 5th, 7th and 9th signs from itself, Saturn on the 3rd, 7th and 10th.

That pair was evaluated against the five commerce and study houses for every rising sign and every window of the cycle. Where a cell says a house, both planets are touching that house at once.

Read the "none" cells honestly. Jupiter and Saturn take about twenty years to complete their cycle relative to each other, so on most charts this signature is active for a few months every few years and absent the rest of the time. Absence is the normal state and it is not a reason to postpone. Capricorn rising is the clearest case here, with no combined touch on any of the five houses across the whole fourteen months, and a Capricorn candidate who waits for one will wait past every sitting on this page.

Where a cell does carry a house, it is worth weighing. Taurus rising has both planets on the 11th of results arriving from now to 31 October 2026 and again from 25 January to 3 June 2027, which brackets the September 2026 sitting and the May 2027 Final. Aquarius rising has both on the 11th between 31 October 2026 and 25 January 2027, which covers the CS December sitting and the CA January one.

The part the tables cannot give you: your own ladder

Everything above is the sky, and the sky is the same for every candidate writing the same paper. It cannot distinguish between two people sitting the same September Intermediate exam, and the whole reason a chart is worth consulting is that those two people are not in the same position.

What distinguishes them is Vimshottari, which is the Vedic system that divides a life into planetary periods of fixed length, each ruled by one planet, calculated from the exact position of the Moon at the minute of birth. It runs at three depths that matter here. The mahadasha is the outer period, lasting between six and twenty years. Inside it the antardasha, which is the sub-period, runs from a few months to nearly three years. Inside that the pratyantar, which is the sub-sub-period, runs from a couple of weeks to a few months.

The pratyantar is the depth that matters for exam planning, and this is the reason a table cannot answer the question. Across four consecutive sittings spread over ten months, most candidates stay inside the same mahadasha and the same antardasha, and the thing that differs from one sitting to the next is the pratyantar. Two candidates with the same rising sign, reading the identical rows in the tables above, can be in completely different sub-sub-periods on the same paper date, and the sequence depends on the Moon's degree at birth, which needs your date, time and place.

There is a second reason the personal half is not optional. The tables assume a known rising sign, and the rising sign changes roughly every two hours. If your birth time is unknown or uncertain by more than an hour, your entire house frame may be wrong, and the honest fallback is to count the houses from the Moon's sign instead. That is a real method and it is what a careful reading does, and it is also a different claim, so it should be labelled rather than quietly substituted.

A worked example, computed end to end

This is one chart, computed from a stated birth moment rather than invented to make a point, so that you can see what the private half of this page actually produces. The birth data is given in full so anyone can reproduce the calculation.

4 September 2002, 04:55 IST, Kolkata.

The rising sign is Leo at 10.9 degrees, in Magha, which is the lunar mansion the ascendant falls in. That matters immediately, because Leo is one of the two rising signs where Mercury rules both commerce houses: the 2nd of retention and the 11th of the result arriving.

The last two rows are left blank on purpose. Rahu and Ketu are the two points where the Moon's path crosses the Sun's, and this system assigns them no exaltation or debilitation, because the classical schools disagree and a guess printed as a fact is worse than a blank.

Debilitation means the sign where the tradition rates a planet weakest.

The learning axis of this chart is strong, and each piece of that comes with the placement it rests on. Mercury is exalted in Virgo and sits in the 2nd house it rules, so analysis and memory are handed to this candidate rather than built. Jupiter is exalted in Cancer. The Moon is in its own sign. Gajakesari, which is the combination formed when Jupiter sits at an angle from the Moon, is present and reported as strong. Two instances of Raja Yoga, which is the combination classically read as a rise in standing, and one Dhana Yoga, which is the combination read as accumulated wealth, are also present on this chart.

Own sign means the sign that planet rules.

The honest other column matters just as much. Jupiter and the Moon both sit in the 12th house, which is the house of solitude and distant places, so wisdom and a settled mind are things this candidate builds rather than receives, and study works better for them alone in a quiet room than in a crowded coaching hall. Jupiter also rules their 5th house of grasp, and it is sitting in that same 12th, so a new topic often needs a second and third pass. That is a pace and not a ceiling, and the useful response to it is to start the syllabus earlier rather than to work longer at the end.

Now the dated half.

Saturn in Pisces falls in this candidate's 8th house, and Jupiter in Cancer in their 12th, moving to their 1st when it enters Leo. Running the transit classification over the cycle gives four windows:

The combined-touch test agrees and sharpens it: for Leo rising, Saturn and Jupiter are both on the 5th house between 31 October 2026 and 25 January 2027. On the transit evidence alone, the best-placed sittings for this candidate are CA Final in November 2026 and CS in December 2026, and the September 2026 sitting is ordinary.

Then the ladder, which is what the tables cannot reach. This candidate is running a Mercury mahadasha from 15 May 2020 to 15 May 2037, and a Sun antardasha from 9 August 2026 to 15 June 2027 that covers every sitting in the cycle. All of them therefore fall under the same outer two periods, and what separates them is the sub-sub-period:

Five consecutive windows, five different sub-lords, one candidate. Each lord carries a fixed reading, applied to the computed boundary rather than written per chart. A Moon period runs on mood, and protecting sleep does more for it than adding hours. A Rahu period brings ambition and unconventional routes, and the thing to guard against is the shortcut. A Jupiter period brings teachers and the wider view, and it is a good time to be taught. A Saturn period brings long hours and slow, durable learning, where endurance beats brilliance. A Venus period brings ease, and its risk is a pleasant term with little done.

No candidate sits all five of those windows, because the levels run on different calendars. A CA Intermediate candidate is choosing between September 2026 and January 2027. A CA Final candidate is choosing between November 2026 and May 2027. A CS candidate is choosing between December 2026 and June 2027. So the comparison to make is inside your own level, and on this chart it resolves differently in each case.

As a CA Intermediate candidate, the choice is September 2026 under a Moon sub-period against January 2027 under a Saturn one. September falls outside this chart's supported window. January falls inside it, in the window where Saturn and Jupiter both touch the 5th house of grasp. The sub-lords point the same way: a Moon period runs on state more than on effort, a Saturn period pays for hours, and this is a chart whose 5th lord sits in the 12th and therefore needs repeated passes at new material. January is the better attempt on both counts. One caution comes with it, and it is a real one: the supported window closes on 25 January, so if ICAI schedules papers into the last week of the month, those papers fall outside it.

As a CA Final candidate, the choice is November 2026 under Rahu against May 2027 under Venus. November sits inside the only window in these fourteen months where both slow planets touch this chart's 5th house of grasp. The one other combined touch this chart gets, on the 6th of competition, opens on 3 June 2027 and closes on the 26th, and no CA Final sitting falls inside it. November also sits inside the Mercury retrograde phase, so the preparation has to be revision-led to use that support rather than waste it, and Rahu is the sub-lord that punishes the shortcut. May 2027 offers an easier Mercury, a weaker transit and a Venus period whose named risk is a comfortable term with little done. November is the better attempt for this chart, on the condition that the revision discipline is actually there.

As a CS candidate, December 2026 under Jupiter against June 2027 under Venus is the least close of the three. December falls in the same supported window, under a sub-lord read as teachers and being taught, with Mercury moving forward. June falls after Saturn has left Pisces and changed character, under the Venus period whose risk is drift. December, comfortably.

Note what the reading did not do. It did not say this candidate will clear any of these papers, and it did not rule a sitting out. It compared the real options at each level and ranked them, which is the honest limit of the method and also the whole of its usefulness.

Group-wise planning: how to actually use this

Five steps turn all of that into a decision, in this order.

Start with what is fixed. Your Saturn house does not change before June 2027. Look it up in the second table. If Saturn is in your 6th of competition, the endurance side of your preparation is supported for the whole cycle and there is no timing argument for delay. If Saturn is in your 4th or 5th, the material takes longer to go in throughout the cycle, and the correct response is to start earlier rather than to sit later, because sitting later does not escape it.

Then decide how many groups. The case for both groups in one sitting is strongest when your best-supported window covers exactly one sitting, because splitting the groups across two sittings would put half your attempt outside it. The case for one group at a time is strongest when two consecutive sittings are equally supported, because then splitting costs you nothing in placement and buys you depth on each group.

Then choose which group goes where. This is the level the day-by-day tables actually reach. In the September 2026 Intermediate sitting, Group II writes under Mercury exalted in Virgo and Group I does not, so where you have a choice about which group carries your weaker subjects, Group II is the better-placed half. In the November 2026 Final sitting, both groups fall inside the Mercury retrograde, but Group II ends on 13 November with Mercury out of the Sun's glare and stationary, so the last paper of the sitting is the least burnt of the six.

Then handle the paperwork separately from the studying. Forms, fees, enrolment cut-offs and centre changes are Mercury's department, and they are the part of the attempt that is genuinely in your hands rather than the institute's. Enrolment windows for the sittings after December 2026 sit outside what this page has verified, so take them from icai.org and icsi.edu directly. What this page can give you is the three windows in which to check a submission twice before sending it, because a backward Mercury is classically read as favouring re-checking over first drafts. Those windows run 24 October to 13 November 2026, 9 February to 3 March 2027, and 10 June to 5 July 2027.

Then stop optimising. Once you have picked the sitting and the group split, the chart has given you everything it can. The remaining variance is in the syllabus, and no further astrological refinement improves a mark.

If you have been stuck at the same level for three years

The student quoted at the top has cleared nothing at Intermediate across three years. That deserves a direct answer.

Three years of attempts is roughly six to nine sittings. Across that many sittings a candidate will have written under supported windows and unsupported ones, under a forward Mercury and a backward one, and under several different sub-sub-periods. When the conditions varied and the result did not, the thing holding the result steady is not in the sky. It is in the preparation, and a chart reading that tells you otherwise is flattering you at your own expense.

What a reading can legitimately do at that point is narrower and still worth having. It can tell you whether the difficulty has a name in your chart, which changes what you do about it. If the lord of your 5th house of grasp sits in the 6th, 8th or 12th, new material genuinely does need more passes than it does for the person sitting next to you, and the fix is more repetitions earlier rather than more hours later. If your Mercury is burnt or backward at birth, your analysis works by going back over ground rather than in a straight line, and cramming is the wrong shape of preparation for you specifically. If Saturn is currently in the 12th, 1st or 2nd house counted from your Moon, which is the phase often called Sade Sati, the work feels heavier than it is and fatigue arrives earlier, and the useful response is a small unbreakable routine rather than an ambitious one.

The second question in that message was whether CA is the right career at all, and that is a structural reading rather than a timing one. It is read from the 10th house of profession, from the strength of the 2nd and 11th houses that carry commerce, and from what the coming periods of your own ladder are made of, which is why the same student asked about their next mahadashas in the same breath. It is a fair question and it has a computed answer, and it is a different page from this one.

It will not tell you that you will clear. It will tell you which of the attempts actually open to you at your level is best placed and why, in dated terms you can check against the institute's own calendar.
