Planets influence rooms they are not standing in. The distribution is uneven, and the extremes are where the useful findings sit.
A Vedic aspect, or drishti, is a sightline a planet casts into another house from where it stands. Every planet aspects the seventh house from itself, the one directly opposite. Four have extra reach: Jupiter also aspects the 5th and 9th from itself, Mars the 4th and 8th, Saturn the 3rd and 10th, and both nodes the 5th and 9th. Unlike Western aspects these are whole-sign and one-directional, so a planet can look at another without being looked at back. The useful reading is the distribution: which room takes the most attention, and which has nothing looking at it at all.

Every one of the nine grahas fully aspects the seventh house counted from wherever it sits, which is the house directly opposite. That much is universal.
Four then have special extra sightlines. Jupiter additionally aspects the 5th and 9th from itself. Mars additionally aspects the 4th and 8th. Saturn additionally aspects the 3rd and 10th. Rahu and Ketu are given the 5th and 9th, like Jupiter.
That is the whole system. It is arithmetic on house numbers, and it is exactly the arithmetic that goes wrong most often when someone does it in prose from memory, which is why on this site it is computed by the engine and quoted rather than counted by hand.
Two differences matter. Vedic drishti is whole-sign: a planet aspects the entire house opposite it, not a point within a few degrees of exactness, so there are no orbs to argue about and no partial aspects to grade.
And it is one-directional. Saturn aspects the 3rd and 10th from itself, but nothing aspects Saturn back merely because it is looking. A planet can therefore be under heavy attention while giving very little, or the reverse. Reading a Vedic aspect as a mutual relationship is the single most common way this gets mangled.
Once every sightline is computed, the interesting thing is not any individual aspect but how unevenly the attention falls. Some rooms in your chart take four or five sightlines. Others take none.
The high end tells you which department of your life has the most planetary weight on it, for better and worse, since a room watched by both Jupiter and Saturn is being both expanded and disciplined at once.
The low end is usually the more actionable finding. A house with no resident and nothing aspecting it is running with the least support in the chart, and the reading then falls entirely to the condition of its lord. That combination, empty and unaspected, is worth knowing about a department of your life before it becomes the department you wonder why you keep neglecting.

Vedic aspects are whole-sign, so a planet aspects an entire house rather than a degree within an orb, and there is nothing to grade as tight or wide. They are also one-directional: a planet aspecting another is not automatically aspected back. Western aspects are mutual and orb-based, which makes the two systems genuinely different rather than differently named.
A house with no planet in it and nothing aspecting it is the least supported department in the chart. It does not mean that part of life is absent. It means the reading falls entirely to the condition of the planet that owns the house, since there is nothing else acting on it directly.
