Will They Come Back? What Your Chart Shows

Someone typed this into our chart chat in August 2026, and the spelling is theirs:

"Currently in breakup ... Wanted to know if it is permanent or temporary ? Will he come back If yes when. breakup happened Feb 11,2026. It's been 6 months of silence from him."

The same person, three minutes later in the same thread: "Highest probability window of his reach out will he break the silence." A second reader, earlier the same month: "I want to clear the misunderstanding when best time to ask her."

Two people, three phrasings, and three different questions hiding inside one. This page separates them, because two of the three have dated answers in a birth chart and one does not, and knowing which is which saves you from reading a promise into a calendar.

The three questions inside the one question

Is the separation permanent or temporary? Vedic timing does not answer this. The method names periods in which the partnership part of your chart is active, and the same period that would carry a reconciliation also carries a first meeting with a stranger and a marriage to somebody else. Our own marriage-timing engine states the boundary in its source, and it is worth reading in the engine's own words rather than mine: "Nothing here predicts an event. It names the windows the chart favours and the condition of the marriage axis, which is what the tradition actually claims."

When is the window in which contact is most likely? That is the reader's phrasing, and the honest version of it is narrower: when is the partnership part of your chart carrying weight. That narrower question has dated answers, and they come from two layers that are computed separately: the planetary period you are running, which is unique to your birth minute, and the transits of Venus and Mercury, which are the same for everybody alive and are printed in full below so you can read them without giving anyone your birth details.

When should I be the one to reach out? This is the question you actually control, and it is the reason the dates are worth having. A window does not tell you that a message will land. It tells you which stretches out of the next hundred and four weeks your own chart puts weight on the partnership house, so that a decision you have been making and unmaking every night becomes a decision with a date attached to it. In the sample measured further down, the median chart gets two such stretches in two years.

The second and third questions are what this page answers. It also tells you, with numbers from 100,000 computed charts, how often the honest answer is that there is no strong window in the next two years at all, because that answer turns out to be common and almost nobody publishes it.

What is actually being timed

Four houses carry this question, and the engine's own transit table glosses them like this:

Houses here are whole sign from the lagna, which is the sign that was rising on the eastern horizon at the moment you were born. That whole sign is your 1st house, the next sign is your 2nd, and so on around the circle. So your 7th house is the seventh sign counting from your rising sign, and the planet that rules that sign is your 7th lord. Almost everything below is about that one planet.

Alongside the 7th lord sits a fixed significator that does not change from chart to chart. Venus is the kalatra karaka, the planet that stands for the spouse and for partnership in every chart ever cast, and Jupiter carries the same role for the husband in a woman's chart. Where the 7th lord is personal to you, Venus is universal, which is why the two get read together and why a Venus transit is the layer you can check without any birth data at all.

Plain words. Dasha means the sequence of planetary chapters a life is divided into. Significator means the planet that stands for a given subject in every chart. Combust means close enough to the Sun that classical practice treats the planet as burnt. Own sign means the sign that planet rules. Dignity means the strength a planet takes from the sign it sits in. Exaltation means the sign where the tradition rates a planet strongest.

One structural fact decides how much independent information you have. In 16.53% of charts, measured over the 100,000 below, Venus is the 7th lord. When that happens the personal significator and the universal one are the same planet, so where most people have two separate signals you have one signal counted twice, and a Venus period will read as far more decisive than it is.

The layer you can read without giving us anything: Venus and Mercury, 2026 to 2028

Venus turns retrograde, which means it appears from Earth to move backwards through the zodiac, for about six weeks at a time, roughly every nineteen months. Mercury does the same for about three weeks at a time, three times a year. Neither planet actually reverses. Earth overtakes them on the inside of their orbits and the parallax makes them look as though they are retracing ground, which is exactly the image the classical reading is built on: a planet going back over degrees it has already crossed.

Every date below was computed on 26 August 2026 by walking the Swiss Ephemeris day by day and recording each change in the sign of the planet's speed. Positions are sidereal, using the Lahiri ayanamsa.

The two Venus retrogrades

A nakshatra is one of the 27 fixed segments of 13°20' each that the sidereal zodiac is divided into, and it is a finer address than a sign. Naming them here matters because a retrograde does not sweep a whole sign. The October 2026 one covers the last degree and a half of Virgo and the first fourteen degrees of Libra, and nothing else, so a reader with planets late in Libra is untouched by it.

Where each Venus retrograde falls in your chart

Find your rising sign in the left column. The numbers are the whole-sign houses the retrograde crosses.

Read the bold entries as the ones that touch this question. Pisces rising is the only sign that gets the October 2026 retrograde across both the 7th and the 8th at once. Scorpio rising is the only sign that gets the May 2028 one squarely on the 7th.

The six Mercury retrogrades

Mercury is the planet of the message, the phone and the conversation, which is why it earns a place on a page about someone who has stopped replying. It retrogrades six times inside this window.

Two of these overlap a Venus retrograde. Mercury and Venus are both retrograde together from 24 October to 13 November 2026, and both again from 21 May to 14 June 2028. Those are the only two stretches in the 24 months when the planet of the bond and the planet of the message are moving backwards at the same time, and if the same stretch also falls on your 5th or 7th house it is the densest transit signal in the whole window.

What a retrograde over your 7th house is, and what it is not

The classical reading of a retrograde is revisiting: a planet going back over ground it has crossed, applied to the affairs of the house it is crossing. Over the 7th, that reads as an old partnership matter coming back up for handling. That is a fair description of what people report to us in these weeks, and it is the reason the dates below are worth putting in a calendar.

Here is the limit, stated plainly so you do not have to guess at it. Venus retrogrades on a fixed schedule for every one of the eight billion people alive, and 3 October 2026 arrives for all of them on the same day. A date that is identical for everybody cannot be about one particular person. What makes it about you is which of your houses it falls in, and whether your own period ladder is running the same planet at the same time. That second half needs your birth details, and it is the next section.

The period ladder, which is where your own dates come from

Vimshottari, which is the 120-year planetary period cycle that Indian astrology times almost everything with, divides your life into nine chapters ruled in a fixed order by Ketu, Venus, Sun, Moon, Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn and Mercury. The chapter lengths are fixed too: Venus gets 20 years, Saturn 19, Rahu 18, Mercury 17, Jupiter 16, Moon 10, Mars and Ketu 7 each, and the Sun 6. Where you enter the cycle is set by the exact sidereal longitude of the Moon at your birth, which is why two people born on the same day in the same city can be in different chapters.

Each chapter, called a mahadasha, subdivides into nine antardashas, which are sub-periods running in the same fixed order and taking the same proportions of the parent. Each antardasha subdivides again into nine pratyantars, which are the third level, and those run from a few days to a few months. The first level names a chapter of your life, the second names a season inside it, and the third names weeks.

The arithmetic is worth seeing once. Take a six-year Sun mahadasha. Mercury's share of the 120-year cycle is 17 years, so Mercury's antardasha inside it runs 17/120 of six years, which is 310 days. Inside that 310-day antardasha, Venus's pratyantar runs 20/120 of 310 days, which is 51 days. Every date in the two worked charts below is that same division, done twice.

For this question the periods that matter are the ones belonging to your 7th lord and to Venus. Those are the two planets that, when their period runs, put the partnership house on the table.

What the ladder actually produces, measured across 100,000 charts

Most pages on this subject imply that a window is always available if you look hard enough. It is not, and here is the measurement.

We generated 100,000 charts on our own engine with seed 20260826: birth dates spread evenly across 1985 to 2005, clock times spread evenly across the day, birthplaces drawn evenly from ten Indian cities. For each one we computed the 7th lord from the rising sign, built the full three-level Vimshottari ladder, and asked what falls inside the 24 months from 26 August 2026 to 26 August 2028.

The gap between the second row and the fourth is the whole practical story. At the antardasha level, which is the level that carries a change of circumstance, fewer than three charts in ten get their 7th lord switched on in any given two years. Drop to the pratyantar level, which is measured in weeks, and nine in ten do. So the honest form of the answer is almost never "your window is next year" and almost always "here are the short stretches your 7th lord holds, and here is which of them the antardasha also supports." Counting antardasha and pratyantar stretches together over a separate 20,000-chart sample, the median chart gets exactly two such stretches in the 24 months, the 90th percentile gets three, and the most any chart in the sample got was five. Two dated stretches in two years is the realistic shape of this answer.

How long is the wait for the ones who are not in a window? Measured as days from 26 August 2026 to the start of the next 7th-lord antardasha:

More than a fifth of charts, 21.64%, wait longer than ten years for their next 7th-lord antardasha. That is simply what a nine-planet cycle with a 120-year period does. If your 7th lord's turn has just finished, the next one is a long way off, and nothing about the chart is wrong.

Counted as time rather than as events, the median chart holds 124 days of 7th-lord period out of the 731, at any level. Add Venus and the median rises to 263 days, with the 10th percentile at 141 and the 90th at 628. So the typical person has about eight and a half months of the next two years in which one of the two partnership significators is running, split across separate stretches rather than gathered into one.

Which planet is your 7th lord, and three structural facts

Because rising signs are not equally common at Indian latitudes, the 7th lord is not evenly distributed either:

Three structural facts fall out of the same sample, and each one changes how a reading should be written.

9.45% of charts have one planet ruling both the 7th and the 8th house. That is Cancer rising and only Cancer rising, because Capricorn and Aquarius are the only two adjacent signs sharing a ruler, and Saturn rules both. In the same sample Cancer rising came in at 9.45% of charts, which is the same number, and that agreement is the check that the calculation is right rather than a coincidence. For a Cancer-rising reader, every Saturn period lights the partnership house and the house of hidden and unresolved matters at once, and they move together.

9.25% of charts have the 7th lord sitting in the 8th house, and 8.54% have the 8th lord sitting in the 7th. Either arrangement ties the partnership house to the house of what is unfinished. Our engine's marriage-timing module treats the first as a friction in its own words: "Your 7th lord falls in the 8th house, one of the three difficult houses. Marriage tends to come later, or through an unexpected route." Chart B below is one of these.

5.19% of people were born with Venus retrograde. A birth-chart retrograde is a permanent condition of the planet rather than a passing transit, and for that one person in twenty the significator of partnership is doing at birth what everyone else's does for six weeks every nineteen months.

The wider signification set, and the number that actually answers "do I have a window"

The 7th lord alone understates the picture, because the tradition does not time a partnership event off one planet. Our marriage-timing engine scores nine roles, documented in its own source: the 7th lord itself, any planet sitting in the 7th, the karaka Venus, the lord of the ascendant of the Navamsha, which is the ninth-part divisional chart traditionally read as the chart of marriage, the Darakaraka, the lord of the 2nd (the family one marries into), the lord of the 11th (the fulfilment of a desire), the dispositor of the 7th lord, and any planet conjunct the 7th lord. Each planet in a chart earns a weight from whichever of those roles it holds, scaled by its dignity, and every period is scored out of 100.

We ran that full scorer over 20,000 fresh charts, seed 20260829, same birth window and same cities.

Median days at score 65 or above, out of 731: 128. The 10th percentile is 0 and the 90th is 731.

So the calibrated answer to "does my chart open in the next two years" is that a little over half of people have a genuinely strong partnership window somewhere in those 24 months and 43% have none, and the two groups look identical from outside. This is the number that makes the birth data worth entering, because it is the one thing about your situation that reading a general page cannot settle for you.

The structural strength of the marriage axis, which is a separate question from timing, came out like this across the same 20,000: Moderate 47.07%, Strong 41.27%, Weak 7.82%, Very strong 3.46%, Quiet 0.39%. Median score 52 out of 100, with the 10th percentile at 36 and the 90th at 68.

Two charts, the same 24 months, two different answers

Both are illustrative births rather than customers. Both are computed in full, and each is answered the way we would answer it if you had entered these details yourself.

Chart A: 24 July 2000, 18:10, Pune

Sagittarius rising at 23°11'. The 7th house is Gemini, and its lord is Mercury.

Combust, in the row above, means sitting close enough to the Sun that the planet is lost in its glare; Mars here is 6.8° from the Sun against a 17° orb, so it qualifies.

The structure. Mercury, the 7th lord, sits in the 7th house in its own sign Gemini, moving direct and clear of the Sun. Our engine scores this axis 60 out of 100, band Strong, and its three drivers read: the 7th lord in its own sign keeps the house of marriage self-supported; the 7th lord in the 7th house keeps partnership in the working part of the chart; and Mercury as a benefic sitting on the marriage house softens and supports it. Against that it flags Mangal Dosha at high severity, from Mars in the 8th house from the lagna, and its own handling note is that the classical remedy is matching with another Manglik chart, which cancels it, rather than avoidance.

There is one thing the drivers do not say and the Navamsha does. It puts Mercury in Pisces, where Mercury is debilitated. So this axis is strong in the birth chart and weak in the divisional chart of marriage, and that combination usually shows as a partnership that starts well and asks for work to stay standing.

The 5th, 7th and 8th. The 5th house is Aries with the Moon in it, and its lord Mars is debilitated, combust, and in the 8th. The 8th house is Cancer and it is crowded: Sun, Mars, Venus and Rahu all sit there, with Saturn and Ketu aspecting it. Venus, the universal significator of partnership, is one of those four. For this chart the affections are wired through the house of what is hidden and unresolved rather than through the house of open partnership, and that is a permanent feature of the birth chart rather than a phase.

The dasha, on 26 August 2026. Sun mahadasha 22 November 2022 to 22 November 2028. Saturn antardasha 28 September 2025 to 10 September 2026. Jupiter pratyantar 26 July to 10 September 2026.

The 24 months.

Both partnership significators get a full antardasha inside the window, and one of them starts in a fortnight. Our engine scores Sun/Mercury at 100 out of 100 and bands it "Very strong", on the grounds that Mercury is both the lord of the 7th house and a tenant of it, and that the sub-period is the level at which an event fires. The third level narrows it further: Mercury's own pratyantar inside its own antardasha runs 10 September to 24 October 2026, which is 43 days, and Venus's pratyantar inside the same antardasha runs 11 November 2026 to 2 January 2027, which is 51 days.

The transits over those dates. Venus turns retrograde on 3 October 2026 in Libra and Virgo, which are the 11th and 10th houses of this chart, so it does not touch the partnership axis. Transit Venus enters natal Gemini, the 7th house, on 28 June 2027 and stays to 22 July 2027, then again from 1 August 2028. Transit Venus crosses natal Venus to within 0.61° on 7 August 2027. Jupiter reaches the trigger position our engine looks for, aspecting the 7th house and sitting in the 7th from the Moon, from 26 December 2028 to 29 March 2029, which is after this window closes.

The answer for chart A. The strongest 43 days in the next two years are 10 September to 24 October 2026, where the antardasha and the pratyantar are the same planet and that planet is the 7th lord in the 7th house. The next-strongest is 11 November 2026 to 2 January 2027, from Venus at the third level. Neither is a transit-led window, so the pressure is internal rather than external: this is a period for initiating rather than for waiting to be contacted. And the 8th-house Venus is the reason a reading of this chart would say the same thing twice: what this person has to work against is the pull to keep the whole matter unspoken.

Chart B: 14 October 2001, 20:29, Bengaluru

Taurus rising at 8°44'. The 7th house is Scorpio, empty, and its lord is Mars.

The structure. Mars, the 7th lord, sits in the 8th house with Ketu, and is aspected by Jupiter from the 2nd. Venus, the universal significator of partnership, is debilitated in Virgo. Our engine scores this axis 29 out of 100, band Weak, and lists three frictions: the 7th lord in the 8th, the karaka debilitated, and Mangal Dosha at high severity from Mars in the 8th from the lagna. It lists one driver, and it is a real one: in the Navamsha, Mars holds the same sign it holds in the birth chart, Sagittarius, which is called vargottama and is the strongest confirmation the divisional chart of marriage can give.

So chart B is the mirror of chart A. A weak birth chart with a vargottama 7th lord in the divisional chart, against a strong birth chart with a debilitated 7th lord in the divisional chart. Anyone reading only the first layer would get both of them backwards.

The 5th, 7th and 8th. The 5th house is Virgo and holds three planets: the Sun, Mercury exalted but retrograde and combust, and Venus debilitated. The 7th house is empty and aspected only by Saturn from the 1st. The 8th holds Mars and Ketu. This is a chart where romance is loud, the formal bond is quiet, and the 7th lord is parked in the house of unfinished business.

The dasha, on 26 August 2026. Rahu mahadasha 30 July 2024 to 30 July 2042. Rahu antardasha 30 July 2024 to 12 April 2027. Venus pratyantar 24 April to 5 October 2026.

The 24 months.

Two antardashas cover the entire window, and neither belongs to Mars or to Venus. The next Mars antardasha begins on 12 July 2041, which is fifteen years away. The next Venus antardasha begins on 16 February 2036.

If the 7th lord were the whole method, the answer here would be "nothing for fifteen years", and that answer would be wrong. Here is what is actually in the window.

Third level. Mars, the 7th lord, holds a pratyantar from 13 February to 12 April 2027, 57 days, sitting at the end of the Rahu antardasha. Venus holds one right now, 24 April to 5 October 2026, 164 days, and another from 16 June 2028. Jupiter, the 8th lord, holds one from 12 April to 7 August 2027. Mercury, the 5th lord, holds one from 24 December 2027 to 26 April 2028.

The role Jupiter plays here, which is the thing the 7th lord alone misses. Jupiter is the lord of the Navamsha ascendant, the lord of the 11th house of fulfilled desires, and the dispositor of the 7th lord, meaning it rules Sagittarius, the sign Mars sits in, and therefore carries the 7th lord's results when its own period runs. Our engine scores the Rahu / Jupiter antardasha, 12 April 2027 to 5 September 2029, at 65 out of 100 and bands it Strong. That is the real window in this chart, and it is 29 months long.

The transits. Transit Venus crosses natal Scorpio, the 7th house, from 2 to 29 January 2027 and again from 28 October to 20 November 2027. It crosses natal Virgo, the 5th house, three times: to 1 September 2026, then 6 to 21 November 2026, then 9 September to 3 October 2027. Transit Venus crosses natal Venus to within 0.06° on 13 September 2027. Transit Jupiter sits in natal Virgo, the 5th house, from 26 November 2027 to 28 February 2028 and again from 24 July 2028. And the October 2026 Venus retrograde falls across the 5th and 6th houses of this chart, so for this person it does land on the house of the attachment itself.

Our engine's Jupiter trigger scan lists six dated stretches in the window where Jupiter aspects the 7th house or the 7th from the Moon, beginning immediately: 26 August to 31 October 2026, 31 October 2026 to 25 January 2027, 25 January to 26 June 2027, 26 June to 26 November 2027, 28 February to 24 July 2028, and 26 December 2028 to 29 March 2029.

The answer for chart B. The 57 days from 13 February to 12 April 2027 are the only stretch in the window when the 7th lord itself is running, and they sit exactly at the handover into the Rahu / Jupiter antardasha, which is the chart's strongest partnership period for years. The overlap of the two, February to April 2027, is where this chart concentrates. The nearer signal, the Venus pratyantar ending 5 October 2026, coincides with the Venus retrograde crossing the 5th house, and reads as the attachment being revisited internally rather than the situation changing.

What a wrong birth time does to every date above

Every date in both worked charts moves if the birth time moves, and this is the part most pages leave out. We measured it rather than estimating it: 20,000 charts, seed 20260827, each one recomputed from the ephemeris at plus or minus 15, 30 and 60 minutes, with the results compared against the original.

Two separate mechanisms are at work and they fail differently.

The first is the rising sign. It advances through all twelve signs in a day, so roughly two hours per sign. A one-hour error therefore lands on the far side of a sign boundary about half the time, and that is why the 7th lord changes for 45.87% of charts rather than for 50%: Capricorn and Aquarius are adjacent and share Saturn, so crossing that one boundary leaves the lord where it was. When the 7th lord changes, every date on the page changes, because a different planet's periods are being looked up.

The second is the Moon. It moves about 13.2° a day, so 15 minutes carries it about 0.14°, which is roughly 1% of a nakshatra's 13°20'. That fraction is what decides how much of your first chapter had already run when you were born, so it moves the end of that chapter, and every boundary after it, by the same number of days. The middle length among the nine possible first chapters is Jupiter's sixteen years, and 1% of sixteen years is about 59 days, which is why the measured median comes out at 58. The consequence is worth saying flatly: a 15-minute error moves your dasha dates by about two months, and the error does not shrink as you go further out. At the 90th percentile a 15-minute error moves them by 75 days and a 60-minute error by 308 days.

The pratyantar column is the one to take seriously if you are looking for a two-week window. Pratyantars are short enough that a 15-minute birth-time error changes which one is running for 58.91% of charts, and the median boundary moves 28 days. Read the third level as texture inside a supported antardasha, never as the whole answer.

If you do not know your birth time

Two things survive, and one does not.

The Moon's sign and nakshatra survive a rough time. The Moon crosses a nakshatra in about a day, so knowing the date and roughly the part of day is usually enough to fix which nakshatra it was in, and therefore roughly where you sit in the dasha cycle. What it will not fix is the exact boundary date, for the reason measured above.

The 7th house does not survive. It is counted from the rising sign, and the rising sign changes every two hours, so without a time there is no 7th house and no 7th lord. Readings that hand you a 7th lord from a date alone have picked one, not computed one.

The practical route is birth-time rectification, which narrows the time by testing candidate ascendants against events you can date from your own life. A single well-dated past event, such as a marriage or a separation you can put a month on, is usually enough to cut a two-hour band to twenty minutes.

What to do inside a window, and what to do outside one

The dates change what is worth doing, and that is the only claim this page makes about behaviour.

Inside a supported window, meaning an antardasha of your 7th lord or of Venus, ideally with a matching pratyantar, the thing to do is initiate. This is the interval in which a first message, a real conversation or a decision to close the matter takes the least effort and lands with the most weight. Most of the people who write to us about silence are waiting for the other person to move. The window does not tell you they will. It tells you when your own attempt costs least.

Outside a window, meaning the median stretch in the median chart, the useful move is the opposite one. Nothing about a quiet period says a message will fail. It says the partnership house is not carrying weight, so effort spent there is effort spent against the grain, and the same effort spent on the 5th-house side of your life, which is what you make and what you enjoy, compounds instead of dispersing.

On a Venus retrograde specifically, the classical reading is revisiting rather than beginning. It is not an argument for restarting a relationship and it is not an argument against one. What it reliably does is bring old material back into the room, which is why the two stretches in this window when Venus and Mercury are retrograde together, 24 October to 13 November 2026 and 21 May to 14 June 2028, are worth marking whatever your rising sign.

Two things it will not do, so that you know before you start. It will not name a person, and it will not tell you a separation is temporary. What it will tell you is which stretches out of the next hundred and four weeks your own chart puts weight on the partnership house, and how strong that weight is measured against 100,000 other charts.

Every sign, degree, nakshatra, house, dignity, dasha date and transit date on this page was computed on 26 August 2026 with the AstroMedha Vedic engine, using the Swiss Ephemeris, the Lahiri sidereal ayanamsa, mean nodes and whole-sign houses. No tropical value appears anywhere. Retrograde station dates come from a daily walk recording each change in the sign of the planet's sidereal speed, and station longitudes are read at noon UT on the station date. Sign ingress dates were refined to the hour by bisection. Dasha dates come from the Vimshottari cycle counted from the Moon's sidereal longitude at birth, with sub-period and third-level dates as proportional divisions of the parent period. Population figures come from three studies generated for this page: 100,000 charts with seed 20260826 for the period ladder, 20,000 with seed 20260829 run through the full marriage-timing scorer, and 20,000 with seed 20260827 for birth-time sensitivity, all with birth dates uniform over 1985 to 2005, clock times uniform over the day, and birthplaces drawn uniformly from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad, Lucknow and Guwahati. Both the antardasha-lord and pratyantar-lord distributions in the 100,000-chart sample were checked against the theoretical shares implied by the 120-year cycle before any figure here was quoted. The two worked charts are illustrative births, not customers.
