My Placement Drive Is Next Week: Reading the Day

Someone typed this into AstroMedha's chart chat on 21 August 2026: "I have placement drive on sep2,3.will I get selected in that company". It is the clearest version of a question this site receives every week during placement season, and it has two inputs rather than one. The first is the date, which is printed on a college notice and is not negotiable. The second is the chart of the person who will be sitting in that room, which decides what the date means. Swap either input and the answer changes.

Everything below is computed rather than looked up. Every position is sidereal, which means measured against the fixed stars using the Lahiri ayanamsa, and every date is a computed boundary rather than a rounded one. Where a dated table appears, it was produced by the same calculation that runs behind every free tool on this site.

The largest single influence on a placement day is not the day. It is the multi-month period your chart is running when the day arrives, and that period is the one part of this question that requires your birth details. The day itself carries the least of the four influences set out next, which is worth saying plainly, because the day is the part that is easy to publish and the period is the part that decides the answer.

Four inputs, and how much each one carries

A hiring date has four separate things acting on it, and they differ by how long each lasts and by how many people it applies to. Ranking them is the whole skill, because a reader who has heard that a certain day is bad usually heard about the input that carries the least.

Read the right-hand column downward. The bottom row is the one most people have heard of, and it is shared by every candidate walking into the same drive. A whole batch sits the same process on the same morning under the same lunar day and the same rahu kaal band, and only some of them get offers. Whatever separates one candidate from another is in the top row, which is personal, and which no calendar can show you.

The rows that apply to everyone with your rising sign are set out further down with their dates and times attached, because they are useful on their own and you should not have to sign up to see them. The top row, the one that applies to you alone, needs your birth date, birth time and birth place, and no table can carry it.

The houses a hiring event is read from

A house in a Vedic chart is one of twelve segments counted forward from your lagna, the sign that was climbing over the eastern horizon at the minute you were born. Each house holds a department of life. AstroMedha's career reading treats four of them as the houses that pay, meaning the ones through which earned work actually arrives:

Three further houses are read as the ones that hold things up rather than deliver them. The 5th is speculation and bets, which build no career. The 8th is interruption, a stalled process, a rescheduled round. The 12th is outgoing: expense, distance, time away, withdrawal.

The 6th is the house most students underestimate, and it is worth a paragraph of its own because a campus drive is a 6th house event before it is a 10th house one. The 10th house is the profession you end up in, the standing you build over years, the employer as an institution. The 6th house is the contest you win to get in: a cut-off, a shortlist, other candidates in the same room being measured against you. A drive where more people apply than there are offers is a competitive field, and competitive fields are read from the 6th. The 10th tells you about the career that follows. The 6th tells you about the morning.

The 11th is where the answer lands, and it is a separate moment from the morning. An interview and its result are two dated events, and on a campus process they can be a fortnight apart. Reading them as one block averages away the thing you wanted to know, which is why a reading that names your drive date should also name the date the result is expected on.

Your four job lords, from your rising sign alone

Every sign is ruled by one planet, so once you know your rising sign the ruling planets of your 2nd, 6th, 10th and 11th houses are fixed. Those four planets are the ones whose periods matter most to a job hunt, because a planet delivers the business of the houses it rules when its own period runs.

If you do not know your birth time, read the table from your Moon sign instead. Your Moon sign is fixed by the date and roughly the hour, while the rising sign changes every two hours, so the Moon sign is the frame that survives a missing birth time. The houses then count forward from your Moon rather than from the horizon. It is a coarser reading and it is a real one. Five rows repeat a planet across two of the four job houses, and the repetition tells you something rather than being an accident of the zodiac. An Aries rising has Saturn ruling both the 10th and the 11th, so one planet's periods carry the career and the offer together, and a Saturn period is unusually decisive for that person in either direction. A Gemini rising has Mars ruling the 6th and the 11th, tying the contest and the gain to a single planet. Leo and Aquarius risings have one planet holding the 2nd and the 11th, which links earnings to arrivals. Sagittarius rising has Venus on the 6th and the 11th. Where one planet holds two of the four, check that planet's condition first, because its weight in a job question is roughly doubled.

Condition means three checkable things rather than an atmosphere. A planet is exalted, meaning it sits in the one sign where it works at full strength, or debilitated, meaning it sits in the sign opposite that one, where the faculty it carries comes good later than the person's actual ability suggests. A planet in its own sign, meaning one of the signs it rules itself, works without being propped up. A planet is combust, meaning it sits close enough to the Sun to be burnt by it, and what it carries is then easily overshadowed by pressure, noise or somebody else's ego in the room. AstroMedha computes combustion with these orbs: Mercury 14 degrees, Jupiter 11, Moon 12, Venus 10, Mars 17, Saturn 15.

Rahu and Ketu, the two lunar nodes, rule no sign at all, so they never appear in the lord table above. When one of them runs a period, it acts for the planet that rules the sign it is standing in, and that substitution is how a node's period gets read. A Rahu period therefore carries real content borrowed from another planet, and reading it means working out which planet that is.

Where the Moon is on your date

The Moon crosses one sign in about two and a quarter days, which makes it the only fast body worth putting on a hiring calendar. It is also the input that distinguishes 2 September from 3 September when both days belong to the same drive, which is exactly what the student quoted at the top of this page was asking about.

The table gives every Moon sign change from 1 September to 31 December 2026, to the minute, in Indian Standard Time. Sidereal longitude is measured from the centre of the Earth, so these times hold for any city in India. To use it, find your drive date, read off the sign the Moon is in at your slot time, and count forward from your rising sign to get the house.

The times matter more than they look. On 3 September 2026 the Moon crosses from Aries into Taurus at 07:27, so a candidate whose slot is at 06:30 and a candidate whose slot is at 11:00 are being read under different signs on the same date. Twenty-one of the fifty-four sign changes in these four tables fall between 09:00 and 18:00, which is where interview slots live. If your drive spans two days, check both, because it is common for them to differ.

AstroMedha's daily guidance reads a transiting Moon from your natal Moon sign, counting the sign the Moon occupies today as the 1st and going forward. Seven of the twelve houses in that count are treated as favourable: the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 10th and 11th. Four carry a specific caution:

Notice what the caution rows do and do not say. A 6th house Moon says the day has friction in it, and friction is what a competitive interview is made of, so the instruction that comes with it is to stay level rather than to stay home. None of the four rows is a verdict on an outcome, and the reason is arithmetic: the Moon crosses all twelve houses in 27.3 days, so it spends about nine of those days inside these four. A factor present on a third of all days cannot be the thing that separates one candidate from another.

The 10th house question is counted differently, from your rising sign rather than from your Moon. The Moon reaching your 10th house is a two-day stretch each month when the house of standing and public visibility has the fastest body sitting in it. If your college gives you any say over which of several slots you take, and one of them lands there, take it. Most students get no such say, so treat this as a tie-breaker on a choice you already have rather than something to go asking for.

Mercury on the day, and why it is smaller than you think

Mercury carries speech, reasoning, calculation and every form the process asks you to fill in, which makes it the planet an interview day is most often read through. Three separate things about Mercury change over a placement season, and they are worth separating because the third one is usually reported as though it were the first two.

Which sign Mercury is in. Mercury changes sign every two to three weeks in the ordinary case and lingers far longer when it turns backward. From your rising sign, this gives the house Mercury is working through on your date.

The two Capricorn rows are not a typo. Mercury runs backward from 9 February to 3 March 2027 and that carries it back into the sign it had left, so a run that looked closed reopens for sixteen days.

Whether Mercury is running backward. A planet is retrograde, meaning it appears from Earth to be moving backward through the zodiac. Mercury's backward runs over the next two years, computed to the day:

An interview inside one of those stretches is not a lost cause, and the distinction is practical rather than consoling. A backward Mercury suits going back over ground you have already covered, so it rewards the candidate who has rehearsed answers out loud and re-read their own project rather than the one improvising. If a form, a fee, an offer letter or a document upload falls inside one, check the details twice before you submit, because re-doing paperwork is the ordinary shape of a Mercury retrograde inconvenience.

How close Mercury is to the Sun. This is the one that gets over-reported. Mercury never travels far from the Sun, so it spends a large part of every year combust, meaning inside the 14 degree orb where its faculty is easily overshadowed. Measured over the 517 days from 1 August 2026 to 31 December 2027, Mercury is combust on 241 of them:

That is 47 percent of all days. Narrowing it to the placement window itself, 58 of the 128 days from 26 August to 31 December 2026 have Mercury combust, which is 45 percent, and offers are made throughout them. A combust Mercury is therefore a preparation instruction rather than a reason to postpone anything. What it argues for is doing the talking out loud before the day: full mock rounds in front of another person, answers spoken rather than written, so that a room where somebody is judging you is not the first place your reasoning has had to work under pressure.

When Saturn and Jupiter both reach your 10th house

The tradition's plainest timing rule for a rise at work is that a career house delivers when Saturn and Jupiter both reach it at the same time, either by standing in it or by casting an aspect on it, which means a planet's gaze falling on a house from elsewhere. Jupiter opens the opportunity and Saturn is what makes it stick, and one without the other is not the signature.

The two planets take about twenty years to repeat their cycle, so the combination switches on for a run of weeks or months every few years and is off in between. In the twelve-row table further down, the shortest complete window is 5 days and the longest is 155. Being off is the normal condition rather than a failure to find anything, and any page that finds a favourable transit for everybody every year is telling you nothing.

Aspects here are directional rather than mutual. Jupiter casts its gaze on the 5th, 7th and 9th signs counted from itself. Saturn casts its gaze on the 3rd, 7th and 10th counted from itself. Jupiter has no 11th aspect, however often that gets written down elsewhere.

Saturn and Jupiter occupy these signs between 26 August 2026 and the end of 2029:

Both tables reopen because both planets spend part of each year running backward, which can carry them back into the sign they have just left. Saturn crosses into Aries on 3 June 2027, reverses into Pisces on 20 October 2027, and settles in Aries from 23 February 2028. A season that opens with that first Aries entry arrives in two instalments, and the four months in between are the earlier conditions returning rather than a new development.

Three rising signs draw a blank across three and a half years, and that is the answer for them rather than a gap in the table. Libra, Scorpio and Aquarius risings have their 10th house untouched by the pair through the end of 2029, which means their job timing is decided by the period ladder rather than by these transits. People with those rising signs get hired constantly. What the blank says is that this particular signature is not where their timing lives.

A caution on how much weight to put on your own row. The rule is usually read against two targets rather than one: the 10th house itself, and the sign your 10th lord happens to occupy, which is the same house's business carried elsewhere in your chart. The second target needs your full chart, so the table above uses only the first. A blank row therefore means "not on the 10th house", and a chart whose 10th lord sits somewhere the pair does reach can still have a window the table cannot show.

The period ladder, and why it needs your birth details

Everything above can be looked up. The period ladder cannot, and it is the input that carries the most weight on a named date.

A dasha is a period of life assigned to one planet. Vedic astrology dates a life by running them in sequence under Vimshottari, a 120-year cycle shared out among the nine planets in a fixed order, each of them getting a fixed number of years.

Where your life starts inside that cycle is fixed by your Moon's nakshatra, which is one of the twenty-seven equal segments the zodiac is divided into, each owned by one of the same nine planets. Your first period belongs to the owner of the segment your Moon occupied at birth, and it starts partly spent: a Moon a quarter of the way through its segment begins life with three quarters of that planet's years still to run.

The cycle nests three deep. The mahadasha is the outer period, a chapter of between six and twenty years. Inside it run nine sub-periods. An antardasha is a sub-period of that kind, sharing out its parent's span among the same nine planets in the same order and proportion. Each antardasha then divides the same way again into nine pratyantars, which last weeks rather than years. On any given day you are running three lords at once, and a named date falls inside one specific stack of the three.

The third level is where a hiring date actually lives, and the arithmetic shows why. Across all 729 combinations the system can produce, an antardasha runs from 110 days to 1,218 days, so on most charts a single antardasha covers a whole placement season and cannot tell your first drive from your fourth. A pratyantar runs from 5.5 days at the shortest, which is a Sun period inside a Sun period inside a Sun mahadasha, to 202.9 days at the longest, which is the same stack made of Venus. The middle of that range sits at 50.7 days, with half of all pratyantars falling between 23.6 and 73.3 days. At that resolution a period lands on one drive and not the next.

A placement season of five months spans 3.3 pratyantars at the median across all 81 outer-and-middle combinations, and anywhere from 1.1 to 12.3 depending on which two planets are stacked above. A student who reads that "this year is good for a job" has therefore been handed a statement about a period inside which their own conditions changed somewhere between one and twelve times.

What you read, once you have the three lords for your date, is which of your houses each lord rules and how each one sits in your chart. A pratyantar belonging to your 6th or 11th lord, well placed, is a different morning from a pratyantar belonging to a planet that rules nothing to do with work and sits badly. A drive read end to end

Sample inputs, so every number below can be checked: born 26 February 2004 at 14:15 in Bengaluru (12.97 N, 77.59 E, IST). Drive dates entered by the student: 2 and 3 September 2026.

The structure. Gemini rising, at 15.31 degrees, in the Ardra segment, third quarter. From a Gemini rising the 2nd house is Cancer and its lord is the Moon, the 6th is Scorpio ruled by Mars, the 10th is Pisces ruled by Jupiter, and the 11th is Aries ruled by Mars again. Mars therefore holds two of this chart's four job houses, which doubles its weight in any question about being hired.

What the structure says. Mars, carrying both the 6th house of the contest and the 11th house of the offer, sits in its own sign of Aries in the 11th house itself. A planet ruling the house of gains and standing in that same house is doing its own business in its own place, which is the strongest simple arrangement this chart has for a hiring question. It shares that house with the Moon and with Rahu, so the 11th is the busiest part of the chart.

Venus is exalted in Pisces in the 10th house, so the house of profession and standing has a planet working at full strength inside it. The texture Venus carries at work in AstroMedha's career reading is relationships, taste, comfort and collaborative gains, so Venus in the 10th argues that this candidate is read well by people rather than only by a scorecard. That favours a process with interviews and group rounds over one decided on written marks alone.

Two things pull the other way and both belong in the reading. Mercury, which carries speech and reasoning and which rules this chart's 1st and 4th houses, is combust at 5.6 degrees, so what it carries dims in a loud or high-pressure room and shows best in quiet conditions. That is a specific instruction rather than a general worry: this candidate should do full-length mock interviews with a stranger present, well before the day, so that the room is not the first place their reasoning has had to work while somebody watches. Saturn sits in the rising sign itself. In a fifteen-minute interview the practical answer is to lead with what they have actually built rather than with how keen they are.

Jupiter, this chart's 10th lord, sits in Leo in the 3rd house of effort, skill and one's own voice. A 10th lord in the 3rd puts the career in the hands of what the person themselves goes out and does, rather than in the hands of an institution placing them. For a student that reads as a preference for applications they drive themselves alongside the college process.

The ladder on the drive dates. On both 2 and 3 September 2026 this chart is running a Mars mahadasha from 28 April 2024 to 28 April 2031, a Jupiter antardasha from 12 October 2025 to 18 September 2026, and a Rahu pratyantar from 29 July 2026 to 18 September 2026. Four things follow, and none of them is available from a calendar.

Mars, running the outer chapter until 2031, is this chart's 6th and 11th lord sitting in its own sign in the 11th house. The entire seven-year chapter therefore belongs to the planet that holds both the competition and the gain. For a candidate whose target is a contested process with a cut-off rather than a qualifying exam, that is the relevant part of the chart being activated for the whole of their early career, and it argues for choosing contested fields over safe ones.

Jupiter, running the antardasha, is the 10th lord. The house of profession is being activated by its own ruler across the drive dates, which is the condition most students hope to hear about and rarely check for.

That antardasha closes on 18 September 2026, sixteen days after the drive. A Saturn antardasha opens the same day and runs to 28 October 2027. Saturn rules this chart's 8th and 9th houses, neither of which is a job house, and Saturn's periods are the slow ones. So the reading has a boundary in it: the 10th lord's own sub-period is running for the interview and is over before most campus result and joining dates land. A student in this chart with any control over scheduling should put their strongest application inside the fortnight before 18 September rather than saving it for October.

The pratyantar belongs to Rahu, which rules no sign, so it is read through the planet that rules the sign it stands in. Rahu stands in Aries, which is ruled by Mars, and Mars rules this chart's 6th and 11th. The Rahu period therefore acts for the same two job houses the outer chapter already belongs to, which is an unusual amount of agreement between two levels of the ladder. Rahu also brings its own texture, which AstroMedha's career reading gives as ambition, unconventional bets, sudden leaps and noise, so the honest reading is that a result in this window is more likely to arrive through an irregular route than a tidy one: a referral, a role that was never advertised, a company nobody at the college has heard of.

Read the right-hand column down and the shape of the year appears. Two stretches in the coming twelve months put a job house on the smallest rung: 29 July to 18 September 2026, which contains the drive, and 12 June to 4 September 2027. The five months between 21 November 2026 and 19 April 2027 put the 1st, 4th, 5th and 12th houses there instead, which are houses of self, home, speculation and withdrawal rather than of employment. A student in this chart pushing hardest in February 2027 would be pushing against the ladder rather than with it.

The sky on the day. Saturn is standing in Pisces, which is this chart's 10th house, and Jupiter is in Cancer, from where its gaze falls on Capricorn, Pisces and Scorpio. Pisces is in that list, so both slow planets are reaching this chart's 10th house on the drive dates. That combination is active from 26 August to 31 October 2026, then again from 25 January to 3 June 2027, and a third time from 26 November 2027 to 23 February 2028. The drive falls in the first week of the first of those three windows.

Transiting Mars, the 6th and 11th lord, is in Gemini, this chart's own rising sign, on both days.

Transiting Mercury is in Leo, this chart's 3rd house, moving forward at 1.85 degrees a day, and combust at 5.2 degrees from the Sun on 2 September and 6.1 degrees on 3 September. It clears the 14 degree orb on 14 September 2026, so both drive days fall inside a combust stretch, and this candidate's natal Mercury is combust as well. Two independent reasons to rehearse out loud rather than improvise, and no reason at all to postpone, since the same combust Mercury is over every candidate in the room.

The Moon differs between the two days, which is what the student was asking.

The 11th house Moon on day one sits on the house where an offer lands, in a chart whose 11th already holds Mars in its own sign. If this student has any choice about which day carries their strongest interview, day one is the better of the two, and the margin is small enough that it should not override a practical reason to prefer the other. If day two is the one with the panel that matters, an earlier slot before 07:27 keeps the Moon in Aries, and after that the reading is a 12th house Moon, which suits the waiting and the paperwork better than the first impression.

The day's shared calendar. For Bengaluru, sunrise falls at 06:10 on both days. The panchang, meaning the five-part day almanac used across India, gives these values:

Vishti, also called Bhadra, is the half-day the tradition sets aside for anything you want to hold rather than start, and it runs through the first part of 3 September. Every candidate in Bengaluru that morning is under the same Vyaghata and the same Vishti, which is why none of these values can explain why one of them gets the offer. What they can do is settle a choice of slot inside a day you cannot move: offered an 11:00 or a 13:00 on 2 September, take the 11:00, because the 13:00 sits inside rahu kaal. Use the table for that and for nothing heavier.

What a birth time four minutes out does to all of this

The ladder is the part of this reading that carries the most weight, and it is also the part most sensitive to a birth time nobody wrote down carefully. The size of that sensitivity is measurable, and a reader who does not know it will put more trust in a period boundary than the boundary can hold.

Your entire dasha ladder is anchored to where the Moon sat inside its nakshatra at the moment of birth. The Moon covers about 13 degrees a day, so it crosses a 13.33 degree segment in roughly a day, and a minute of clock error moves it about a hundredth of a degree. That small movement is then multiplied by the length of the first period, which is between six and twenty years. The result, measured against the Moon's real speed range of 11.79 to 15.31 degrees a day over 400 days from 1 January 2026:

Put the bottom row next to the median pratyantar length of 50.7 days. A Venus-owned Moon segment means ten minutes of birth-time error moves your whole ladder by roughly fifty days, so ten minutes is the difference between one sub-period and the next one.

The Bengaluru chart shows it directly. Holding the birth date and place fixed and moving only the clock, here is the pratyantar running on 2 September 2026:

Seven of the nine possible lords appear inside a single hour. The rising sign stays Gemini throughout, so a chart drawn from a rough birth time can look entirely correct and still hand you the wrong sub-period for your date.

There is a second and sharper version of the same problem. A Moon sitting close to the boundary between two segments can change owner within a few minutes, and that resets where the whole 120-year cycle starts. A second sample chart, born 11 July 2004 in Hyderabad, has its Moon at 13.363 degrees, and the boundary between the Ashwini and Bharani segments falls at 13.333. At a birth time of 03:40 that Moon is in Bharani, owned by Venus. At 03:36 it is in Ashwini, owned by Ketu. The pratyantar running on 2 September 2026 is Saturn in the first case and Jupiter in the second, from a four-minute difference.

The problem is common enough to have been measured. Across all 1,463 birth profiles on AstroMedha as of 18 August 2026, 1,286 carry a real birth time and 177 are sitting on a noon placeholder because nobody ever supplied one. For 164 of those profiles, the birth star we would otherwise print is decided by the assumed hour rather than by the birth, so the site checks for that case and says so instead of printing a star it cannot stand behind.

What to do about it. Get the time from the hospital record, the birth certificate, or the person who was in the room, in that order of reliability, rather than from family memory, which rounds to the nearest half hour. If two sources disagree, run the reading at both times and compare. Where the two agree, the answer holds; where they disagree, you have learned exactly how much weight that period boundary can take. Correcting a birth time on your profile rebuilds the readings that were written from the old chart, so a late correction is worth making rather than living with. Where no time can be established at all, the reading counts houses from the Moon sign instead, which is coarser and which is honest, rather than asserting a rising sign nobody can defend.

What the reading gives you instead of a yes or a no

Students ask for a verdict, usually in as many words. The question at the top of this page ends "will I get selected in that company", and a fair number of the messages behind it end with "give me a yes or no answer please".

AstroMedha's career reading never prints a selected or a rejected, and the reason is about who is reading it rather than about the method. The readers here are twenty-one-year-olds in their final year and their parents, and telling a twenty-one-year-old they will fail an interview next week is not something this site will print. It would also be the least useful sentence available, because a person who believes it walks into the room already beaten, and the belief does the damage the sentence only claimed to predict.

What arrives instead is more usable on the morning itself. The reading names the three period lords running on your date and which of your houses each of them rules, so you know whether your job houses are on the ladder that week or five months away. It names the dated boundaries where those conditions change, which is what turns a choice between two drives, or between the campus process and an outside application, into a decision with something under it. It names which of your job lords is strongest and how it sits, which decides whether your preparation time is better spent on rehearsing out loud, on the technical material, or on getting a referral. And it names the honest caveats, such as a combust Mercury or a period lord that rules nothing to do with work, in the form of an instruction rather than a warning.

A yes would have left you with nothing to do differently tomorrow morning. Each of those four does.

When the day is a hard one and the date cannot move

Most placement dates cannot be moved, and a reading that only helps when you can choose the date helps almost nobody. Three situations come up repeatedly in the questions this site receives, and each has a different answer.

Your job houses are not on the ladder in this window. The reading says your running sub-periods belong to lords ruling houses unconnected to work, and the next stretch that does is months out. What that changes is where the effort goes, not whether you turn up. The campus drive still happens and you still sit it. What the timing argues for is spreading applications wider rather than betting everything on the two companies visiting your college in the flat stretch, and putting the strongest single application into the dated window the reading names. A student who reads this and stops applying has read it wrong.

The drive is the fourth one you have sat and the previous three ended in rejection. A large share of the employment questions AstroMedha receives come from people on their third, fourth or fifth attempt, and some have been at it since 2023. What a chart adds for them is a shape to the difficulty, which is a more useful thing to receive than encouragement. Learning that your last three attempts fell inside a stretch where your job houses were nowhere on the ladder gives you an explanation that does not require you to conclude you are incapable, and that conclusion is the one most of them have already reached on their own. It is also usually the wrong reading of the evidence. The same person applying inside a dated window where their 6th and 11th lords are running is the same candidate under conditions that changed.
