A journey begins well when it leaves on a movable (chara) nakshatra, in a benefic window, and avoids the direction the day blocks. Travel muhurat is one of the older branches of timing, kept by traders and pilgrims who set out on long roads.

What a travel muhurat looks for

Nakshatra. Movable and swift stars suit a journey: Ashwini, Punarvasu, Pushya, Hasta, Anuradha, Shravana, Dhanishta, Shatabhisha, Revati, Mrigashira and Swati. Bharani, Krittika, Ashlesha, Magha, Vishakha, Jyeshtha and Moola are avoided.
Choghadiya. The Char (movable) Choghadiya is the window classically suited to starting a journey, since the name itself means movable. Amrit, Shubh and Labh windows are also good. Rahu Kaal is avoided.
