When Will I Conceive? Reading the Timing Window

A chart cannot tell you whether you will conceive. What it can do is name the years your own chart marks for children, and give you the dates Jupiter crosses the part of your chart that carries them. Those are timing answers, and timing is the only kind of answer this method honestly produces.

Here is the boundary, in the same words the report itself uses:

What follows is about timing, not about medicine. It cannot diagnose anything, it cannot tell you whether conception is possible, and it is never a reason to start, stop, delay or change any treatment. Those decisions belong with your doctor, who can see what a chart cannot.

The timing question is still a real question, and it has a real method behind it: the house in your chart that carries children, the years in which that house's ruling planet runs, and the dates Jupiter arrives over that house. Two of those three you can work out yourself, for free, before you hand anyone your birth details.

The house that carries children, and how to find yours

Houses are counted whole sign from the lagna, the sign that was climbing over the eastern horizon at the moment and place you were born. The whole of that rising sign is your 1st house, the whole of the next sign is your 2nd, and the count runs on around the circle. Your 5th house is the entire fifth sign along, with no part of it spilling into the sign next door.

The 5th is read for children in this tradition, and also for the mind you were born with, for what you make, and for merit carried over from a previous life, which is how the classical texts describe this house. Those are not four unrelated topics. They are one idea seen four ways: what comes out of you and continues after you.

Every sign has one ruling planet. The planet ruling your 5th sign is your 5th lord, and its periods are what your calendar for children gets built from. Jupiter matters separately, in every chart, because Jupiter is the planet that stands for children in general, the way Venus stands for marriage. So two planets are usually in play at once: the one that rules your 5th house, which is personal to you, and Jupiter, which is the same for everybody.

The 9th house sits in that table because the classical rule treats it as the second house of children, on the logic that it is the fifth house counted from the fifth. Its ruling planet earns a smaller weight in the same calendar than your 5th lord does.

Across 100,000 charts computed for this page, Jupiter rules the 5th house in 18.6% of them, Saturn in 18.2%, Mars in 18.2%, Venus in 16.7%, Mercury in 15.0%, the Sun in 7.0% and the Moon in 6.3%. The Sun and the Moon come last because they rule one sign each while the other five rule two.

The years that belong to your 5th lord

Knowing which planet rules your 5th house tells you nothing about when. The when comes from Vimshottari, the 120-year cycle of planetary periods that Vedic astrology runs on. Every life is divided into nine major periods, one per planet, in a fixed order and at fixed lengths:

Which planet you start on, and how much of that first period had already run before you were born, is decided by exactly where the Moon sat at your birth. The Moon crosses one nakshatra, the 13 degree 20 minute segment of sky that fixes the starting point, in a little under a day. Two people born on the same date at different hours can therefore begin the cycle on different planets, which is why this layer needs your birth data and cannot be answered from a birth year.

Inside each major period the same nine planets run again in the same order as sub-periods, scaled to fit. A sub-period is called an antardasha, and it is where dating actually happens. A major period of Mars lasts seven years, too coarse to plan anything around. The Jupiter sub-period inside it is about eleven months, which is a range you can hold in your head.

So "when does my chart support children" becomes a question about pairs: across my life, which major period and sub-period pairs have my 5th lord or Jupiter running in one or both halves? Our engine scores every pair between the ages of 20 and 48 on exactly that, weighting the sub-period against the major period at three to two, because the sub-period is the thing that fires inside a supportive chapter. The weighting is written down rather than hidden, so the arithmetic is yours to check.

You can get the raw ladder yourself. The free dasha calculator returns your current major period and sub-period with dates, again without an account. What it does not do is score that ladder against your own 5th house, and that scoring is what turns a list of periods into a list of windows.

Across the 100,000 charts, the median chart carries 5 supported windows between 20 and 48, with the middle half of charts falling between 4 and 7. The lowest any chart returned was 1 and the highest was 23. None came back empty, which is by design: the scoring ranks a chart against its own spread, never against other people, so there is no arithmetic in which a calendar can come out blank and read as a verdict.

One number is worth knowing before you read anyone's fertility timing, ours included. In 70.6% of those 100,000 charts the top-scoring window was a Jupiter sub-period. Jupiter is the general signifier of children in every chart, so it earns weight in every chart, and that pushes Jupiter sub-periods to the front far more often than any other planet. Mercury and Venus tie for a distant second at 6.1% each. If a fertility reading keeps landing on Jupiter years, that is the method showing through rather than a coincidence about you.

Jupiter's transit, and the real dates

The dasha, meaning the planetary period you are running, says which years are yours. It does not say what turns up in them. For children the classical trigger is Jupiter arriving at your 5th house, either by moving into that sign or by throwing an aspect onto it from elsewhere. This is a transit, meaning the live position of the planet in the sky today rather than where it stood when you were born.

Jupiter takes about a year to cross one sign, which is what makes it usable here. A transit lasting three days cannot be planned around. One that holds a sign for a year is a chapter.

Two things about the dates. First, they are sidereal, measured against the fixed stars using the Lahiri ayanamsa, which is the correction Indian astronomy applies. On 26 August 2026 Jupiter sits at 18 degrees 15 minutes of Cancer on this reckoning, in the nakshatra Ashlesha, moving forward. A Western calculator prints Leo for the same instant because it measures from the equinox instead. Vedic work uses the sidereal figure and every date here is that one.

Second, Jupiter does not cross a boundary once and settle. For roughly four months of each year it turns retrograde, meaning it appears from Earth to slide backwards, and when that turn falls near a sign boundary it re-enters the sign it just left. The table keeps those re-entries rather than hiding them, because the first entry and the settled residence are different dates and you may care about both.

Read the Leo passage as one event with three dates rather than as three events. Jupiter first reaches Leo on 31 Oct 2026, falls back into Cancer on 25 Jan 2027, returns to Leo on 26 Jun 2027 and stays until 26 Nov 2027. If Leo is your 5th house, your Jupiter passage over it runs from November 2026 to November 2027 with a gap in the middle, and the honest way to describe that is as a window rather than as a day.

The Aquarius passage in 2033 has no back-step, because Jupiter's turn that year falls well inside the sign rather than near its edge. That is ordinary and it does not make the passage weaker.

When Jupiter next reaches your 5th house

An aspect in this system is a count of signs, not an angle you measure. Every planet looks at the sign opposite its own, which is the seventh sign counting forward with the sign it stands in as the first. Jupiter looks at two signs more: the fifth counting forward, and the ninth. So Jupiter reaches your 5th house in one of four ways. It can stand in the house itself, or it can stand in a sign from which your 5th is the fifth, the seventh, or the ninth counting forward.

Find your lagna and you have every date between now and the end of 2034 on which Jupiter reaches your 5th house, taken from the same daily scan as the table above.

Jupiter sitting in the sign itself is read as the strongest of the four positions, and the fifth and ninth aspects are read as stronger than the seventh, because the seventh is the straight opposition while the other two are the trines Jupiter handles best. All four count.

Across the 100,000 charts, 99.5% have at least one Jupiter contact with the 5th house inside the next five years, at a median of 2 contacts. Only 508 charts in 100,000 have none. A separate 20,000-chart check on who those people are returned the same answer every time: someone already 45 or 46, whose forward calendar stops at 48, and whose 5th house is Libra or Gemini, the two signs Jupiter does not reach again until after that calendar closes.

This layer on its own therefore separates almost nobody from anybody. Nearly everyone has a Jupiter date coming. What distinguishes one calendar from another is whether it lands on a year the dasha ladder also supports.

The D-7 check

The saptamsa is the divisional chart, a second wheel built by cutting every sign into equal parts, that Vedic astrology reads for children specifically. Each sign is cut into seven pieces of 4 degrees 17 minutes. For an odd sign the seven pieces are counted from that sign forward; for an even sign they are counted from the seventh sign along. A planet's D-7 position is the sign its piece lands in.

What it adds is a second opinion on the same two planets. If Jupiter and your 5th lord both land somewhere strong in the D-7, the reading of the main chart holds up under a second method. If they scatter, the classical instruction is to lean harder on the timing and less on the structural picture, which is the direction this page leans anyway. The D-7 checks a claim and never makes one by itself.

A chart read end to end

Here is the whole calculation on one chart, computed for this page: born 15 March 1994 at 08:20 in Delhi.

The structure. Lagna Aries, at 7 degrees 04 minutes. Fifth house Leo, so the 5th lord is the Sun, and the Sun sits in Pisces in the 12th house. Jupiter is in Libra in the 7th house. Nothing occupies Leo, and Jupiter neither sits in it nor aspects it. The 9th house is Sagittarius, ruled by Jupiter.

Which planets that leaves as her timers. Two, and only two. The Sun, because it rules her 5th house. Jupiter twice over: once as the general signifier of children, and again because it rules her 9th. Mars, Saturn, Mercury, Venus, the Moon, Rahu and Ketu earn no claim on this part of her chart, so their periods go unmarked. A planet gets weight here by holding a position in this chart, never from a general ranking of planets.

The D-7. Her saptamsa ascendant is Taurus, ruled by Venus, and its 5th sign is Virgo, ruled by Mercury. Jupiter's D-7 sign is Aquarius and the Sun's is Virgo. Jupiter does not hold the same sign in both charts, so it picks up no extra strength from this layer.

The calendar. Her major period changed on 3 June 2026 from the Sun to the Moon, and the Moon runs until 3 June 2036. On 26 August 2026 she is inside the Moon's own sub-period, which ends on 4 April 2027. The Moon carries neither her 5th house nor the signification of children, so the engine bands the period she is in right now as quiet and describes it in its own words: "Compared with the rest of your calendar, neither half of this period carries your house of children strongly. That is a statement about the timing, and about nothing else." What it offers a quiet period for is groundwork: health, tests, rest, and getting everything in place so the next supported window is not spent preparing.

Her supported windows between 20 and 48 come out as four:

Two of those four are in the past and the report prints them anyway. That is deliberate, and for a first-time reader it is the most useful thing here: before you trust a method about a year that has not happened, check it against the years that have. Her strongest window on the whole calendar ran from June 2022 to April 2023. Either something happened around then or it did not, and that one comparison tells you more about whether to trust the calendar than any amount of description does.

The trigger dates. Jupiter reaches her 5th house, Leo, on 31 Oct 2026, falls back to Cancer on 25 Jan 2027, and returns on 26 Jun 2027. After that it reaches Leo by its ninth aspect from Sagittarius on 17 Feb 2031, by its seventh aspect from Aquarius on 18 Mar 2033, and enters the sign itself again on 7 Oct 2038.

Her two layers disagree. The Jupiter transit is happening now while her ladder is quiet now. Her next supported window opens in May 2029, and Jupiter leaves Leo on 26 November 2027 and touches nothing of hers again until 17 February 2031. Looking forward from today, the first date on which both layers point at the same month is 7 October 2038, seventeen days before her Mars and Jupiter window closes. Waiting for that would be the wrong reading of her chart, for reasons the next section puts numbers on.

What to do when the layers disagree

Requiring both layers to line up is the wrong test, and the population numbers say why. Across the 100,000 charts, 77.2% have a supported dasha window inside the next five years and 99.5% have a Jupiter contact, yet only 52.2% have a Jupiter contact that falls inside one of those windows. Among the 76.8% carrying both kinds of event at all, the two coincide 68.0% of the time. So roughly one chart in three has both signals in the next five years and never has them meet.

The reading that follows is the one the report gives: name both layers separately and say which one is doing the work in a given year. A supported dasha window with no Jupiter contact is still a supported window, because the ladder is the layer that decides which years are yours at all. A Jupiter contact inside a quiet period is a real transit landing on a calendar whose weight sits elsewhere. Neither cancels the other and neither is a verdict.

What the disagreement is genuinely good for is ordering. If a decision has to be made about when to begin a course of treatment, and one year carries both layers while another carries one, that is an input to a schedule. It is not a prognosis, and no honest reading turns it into one.

What your birth time is worth

This is the part people skip, and it is the input that decides the answer. Across the same 100,000 charts:

• Moving the birth time by 15 minutes changes the 5th house sign in 12.5% of charts.
• Moving it by 60 minutes changes it in 50.2% of charts.
• Dropping the birth time entirely and counting houses from the Moon instead, which is the standard fallback, changes the 5th house sign in 91.6% of charts and the 5th lord in 84.5%.

A rising sign lasts about two hours, so an hour of error is close to a coin flip on which sign your 5th house is. It is two hours on average rather than exactly: signs climb the horizon at different speeds, and across the 100,000 charts Scorpio was the rising sign for 9.5% of births while Pisces was for 6.3%. A wrong 5th house gives a wrong 5th lord, which gives a wrong set of years and a wrong set of Jupiter dates, so the birth time settles the answer before any of the astrology gets a turn.

If you have your birth time to the nearest few minutes, use it. If you have it only to the nearest hour, the reading is still worth having and should be read as covering two possible 5th houses rather than one. If you have no birth time at all, the fallback counts houses from your Moon's sign and says on its face that it has done so, which is what our engine does rather than quietly inventing a rising sign it was never given.

The question people actually type

Several of the questions this page was written from name a procedure and a month. One of them is "if I do IVF implant in October 2026 would that work?", and it deserves a straight answer rather than a soft one.

A chart cannot score a cycle. It holds no information about a cycle. What it can tell you about October 2026 is whether that month sits inside a window your own chart supports, and where Jupiter stands relative to your 5th house on that date. Both are real facts about your chart and both are computable to the day. Neither is a claim about an outcome, and a reading that offers one is inventing it.

Take that actual month. Through the whole of October 2026 Jupiter is still in Cancer, and it moves to Leo on 1 November. So for a Pisces rising chart Jupiter sits in the 5th house that month, and for Cancer, Virgo and Scorpio rising it reaches the 5th house by aspect. For the other eight rising signs Jupiter is nowhere near their 5th house in October 2026, and the whole answer for them turns on where their own dasha ladder sits. That is as far as the calculation goes, and it is a real distinction rather than a way of saying nothing.

The reason to want the timing anyway is that some of these decisions are schedulable. Which quarter to begin in, which of two candidate years to plan around, whether to spend a quiet period on tests and groundwork and start in the next supported one: a calendar can inform choices of that shape. Whether a given transfer takes is not one of them.

What the full report computes

• The dated Jupiter contacts with your 5th house over the next five years, and which of the four positions each contact is.
• The same medical boundary quoted at the top of this page, on every copy, because the report is not permitted to leave without it.

It costs 499 rupees. It is computed from your chart rather than written to order, and it never returns a verdict on whether you can conceive, because the calculation does not produce one and no honest reading would print it.
