Why My Money Leaks: The 6th and 12th Houses in My Chart

Money leaving a life faster than it arrives is read in a Vedic chart as a relationship between four houses. Two of them hold what you keep and what comes in. Two of them hold what goes out. The question is whether the planets that rule the first pair are tied to the planets that rule the second, and if they are, in which direction and how strongly.

A house is one of twelve segments of a birth chart, and each one sits on a sign of the zodiac. Every sign has a ruling planet in the tradition, so every house has a ruler: the planet that owns the sign sitting on it. Which planet rules which house is decided entirely by your lagna, the sign that was rising on the eastern horizon at the minute you were born. The rising sign changes roughly every two hours, so two people born in the same city on the same morning, ninety minutes apart, are running this check on a different set of four planets and can get opposite answers. That is why no general description reaches the answer, and why the first thing this needs is your birth time.

The four houses, and what each one actually holds

Houses in this system are counted from your rising sign, which becomes the 1st. The four that decide this question are these.

The 2nd house is money, family and speech. It is the store: savings, what you own, what you have gathered and can draw on.

The 11th house is gains, income, networks and the fulfilment of desire. It is the inflow. Where the 2nd is the tank, the 11th is the pipe filling it.

The 6th house is debt, disease, competition and daily work. It carries what you owe and what you have to fight for, including the effort of servicing a loan and the grind of work done for someone else's schedule.

The 12th house is loss, expense, foreign lands and retreat. It carries what leaves: money spent, money given away, money that goes somewhere far from where you are, and money released on purpose.

Two things about that list are easy to get wrong. The 6th and the 12th are not houses of misfortune, and the tradition does not read them that way. The 6th is also where debt gets defeated, which is why a strong 6th reads as someone who wins against competitors and clears what they owe rather than someone buried by it. The 12th is also the house of what you deliberately let go of, which covers giving, investing abroad, and the cost of things you chose. An outflow is only a leak when it is not doing anything for you, and the chart alone cannot tell you which of your outflows those are. What it can tell you is which houses your money is structurally exposed to, and when that exposure is running.

Step one: find the four rulers in your own chart

Read across the row for your rising sign. The sign sitting on each of the four houses is fixed by the rising sign, and the ruler of each sign is fixed in the tradition, so this table is identical for everyone with a given ascendant. The last column is the share of charts with that ascendant that carried some tie between an earning ruler and an outflow ruler in our 100,000-chart sample, and the sections after it explain both the rule behind that column and why the spread is so wide.

Three rows are bolded because one planet is holding both an earning house and an outflow house at once. For Gemini rising, Mars rules the 11th and the 6th together. For Sagittarius rising, Venus rules the 11th and the 6th together. For Pisces rising, Saturn rules the 11th and the 12th together. We checked all twelve ascendants and those three are the only ones where it happens, which is why their share column reads 100%: the tie is built into the chart before a single planet moves.

Two other rows are worth reading before you go on. For Leo and Aquarius rising, one planet rules both earning houses, Mercury for Leo and Jupiter for Aquarius. That is a concentration rather than a tie, and it is the reason those two ascendants sit at the bottom of the share column. With one planet covering both the 2nd and the 11th there are half as many earning-to-outflow pairs available to connect, so half as many chances of a connection.

If you do not know your rising sign, the free kundli tool, which is our birth-chart calculator, computes it from your date, time and place of birth and prints every planet with its sign and house number. It does not print house rulers, so take your rising sign from it and read them off the table above. Without a birth time there is no rising sign, which means no house numbers, which means these four houses cannot be located at all. Our engine refuses to guess a rising sign in that case rather than assume noon, because a wrong ascendant hands all four houses to the wrong planets and then answers a chart that is not yours.

The five ways an earning ruler and an outflow ruler get tied together

You now have four planets: two that rule what you hold and what arrives, two that rule what you owe and what you spend. A tie exists when one of the first pair is connected to one of the second pair in one of these ways.

One. An earning ruler standing in an outflow house. Your 2nd or 11th ruler is physically placed in your 6th or 12th. The planet that owns your savings is sitting in the house of expense. This is the form most people mean when they say money leaks.

Two. An outflow ruler standing in an earning house. The reverse trip. Your 6th or 12th ruler is placed in your 2nd or 11th. The tradition reads this as the affairs of debt or expense being conducted inside the place money is held.

Three. Conjunction. An earning ruler and an outflow ruler occupy the same sign, and therefore the same house as each other. The two are travelling together wherever they are. This is by some distance the most common form, and the section after next explains why it has more to do with the geometry of the solar system than with you.

Four. Exchange, called parivartana. Your earning ruler sits in the sign of an outflow house while that outflow house's ruler sits in the sign of your earning house. Each planet is standing in the other's territory. This is the rarest of the five and the tradition weighs it the heaviest, because it binds two houses to each other in a way that one planet's placement cannot. Parivartana yoga covers the mechanism in general.

Five. Shared rulership. One planet rules an earning house and an outflow house at once. This is the built-in case from the three bolded rows above, and it needs no placement at all to be true.

Checking your own chart against these takes two columns from your kundli, the printed birth chart: which sign each of the four rulers is in, and which house number that sign is for you. Both are printed by the free tool.

How common is this? We ran the check on 100,000 charts

There is no published figure for how often the earning and outflow rulers of a chart are connected, so we computed one. We generated 100,000 birth charts with our own sidereal engine, drawing birth dates uniformly from 1960 to 2009 and birth times uniformly across the clock, all cast at New Delhi, then applied the five rules above to every chart. A separate 20,000-chart run at a different seed reproduced every figure below to within 0.8 points.

What was found among the 2nd, 11th, 6th and 12th rulersShare of 100,000 charts

One planet ruling both an earning and an outflow house23.80%
Any of the five77.09%
None of the five22.91%

Three charts in four carry one. That number is the most useful thing on this page, and it points the opposite way to how the subject is usually sold. A yes to "is there a leak in my chart" puts you with three quarters of everyone you know, so the yes by itself is not the finding. What separates one chart from another is which of the five it is, which two houses it joins, which direction it runs, what condition the planets are in, and when their periods arrive. Those five questions are what the rest of this page is about, and every one of them is answerable from a birth time.

The number of ties matters as well, and most charts carry one or two. Counting only the placement forms, and leaving shared rulership aside because it is a property of the ascendant rather than of the planets, 30.47% of charts had no placement tie at all, 34.00% had exactly one, 24.85% had two, 8.03% had three, and 2.64% had four or more. So the single tie is the ordinary case, and a chart with three or four connections between its earning and outflow rulers is in the top 11%.

The exchange is the form that is genuinely rare, at 2.58%. Broken out by which pair of houses it joined: the 11th and 12th exchanged in 0.87% of charts, the 2nd and 12th in 0.75%, the 2nd and 6th in 0.52%, and the 11th and 6th in 0.45%. If you have one, you are holding something roughly one chart in forty carries, and it is the one form of the five worth going and looking at specifically.

Why your rising sign changes the odds this much

The share column in the ascendant table runs from 49.9% for Leo rising to 83.7% for Cancer rising, ignoring the three ascendants that are 100% by construction. That is a wide spread for something meant to describe you personally, and two things account for nearly all of it.

The first is how many distinct planets you are working with, which the Leo and Aquarius rows already showed. The second is which planets they are, and here the sky decides rather than the chart. Mercury and Venus orbit closer to the Sun than Earth does, so seen from here they never stray far from it. Across the same 100,000 charts, our engine never placed Mercury more than 27.79 degrees from the Sun, or Venus more than 47.13 degrees. A sign is 30 degrees wide, so those three planets land in the same sign as one another far more often than any other combination does.

Pair of planetsShare of charts sharing a sign
Sun and Mercury51.27%
Mercury and Venus25.88%
Sun and Venus23.55%
Mars and Venus, the next-highest pair14.31%
Everything else8.21% to 13.74%

Now put that beside the ascendant table. Cancer rising has the Sun ruling the 2nd and Mercury ruling the 12th, which is the tightest pair in the sky: 51.0% of Cancer-ascendant charts in the sample had their savings ruler and their expense ruler sitting in the same sign. Libra rising has the Sun on the 11th and Mercury on the 12th, and 51.3% of Libra charts had those two together. Those two lines alone are why Cancer and Libra top the table.

This is worth knowing before you attach much weight to a conjunction between your money rulers. Half of everyone born with Cancer rising has that placement, and the reason is that Mercury cannot get more than 28 degrees away from the Sun. It is a fact about the solar system that arrives in your chart, and the same conjunction in a chart where the two rulers are Saturn and Mars, which share a sign only 8.58% of the time, is a much less ordinary event. The condition of your own two planets is where the personal part of this lives, and that is the next section.

Which direction the tie runs, and what each line reads as

The eight individual placement lines each came out close to one chart in twelve, which is what you would expect if a planet landed in a house at random. All eight occur at nearly the same rate, and what each one reads as is different in every case, so the table gives the traditional reading beside the frequency.

PlacementShare of chartsWhat the tradition reads
2nd ruler in the 6th8.03%Savings tied to debt and to work done under obligation. Money held is money already committed.
2nd ruler in the 12th8.32%Savings tied to expense, to distance and to release. What is gathered goes out again.
11th ruler in the 6th8.30%Income earned through competition, service and effort against resistance, and income that meets debt on arrival.
11th ruler in the 12th8.44%Gains flowing directly into outgoings, often before they are felt as gains.
6th ruler in the 2nd8.03%Debt and obligation reaching into the store. The family and savings side carries the weight of what is owed.
6th ruler in the 11th8.90%Debt and competition entering the income structure. Borrowing and rivalry are part of how income is made.
12th ruler in the 2nd8.38%Expense standing in the house of savings. Outflow is a permanent resident of the account rather than an event.
12th ruler in the 11th8.03%Expense sitting in the house of gains. Spending scales with income instead of lagging it.

Direction is the part people skip and it changes the reading completely. An earning ruler that has gone to sit in an outflow house has left home, and the tradition reads the affairs of its own house as being conducted elsewhere. An outflow ruler that has come to sit in an earning house has arrived, and the reading is that the affairs of debt or expense are being conducted inside the place money is kept. Those describe different lives. The first often looks like money that never quite gets to the account. The second often looks like an account that never quite stays full.

Neither of them is a verdict, and the same placement in two charts can produce very different outcomes, because a placement is a channel rather than an amount. What decides how much comes through the channel is the condition of the planet standing in it.

Condition: the check that separates two charts with the same placement

Every planet has one sign where the tradition rates it strongest, called its exaltation, the sign directly opposite where it rates it weakest, called its debilitation, and one or two signs it owns outright, where it is at home. Anywhere else it is neutral. A planet can also be combust, meaning close enough to the Sun to be lost in its glare, which the tradition reads as a planet whose own agenda is overridden.

Debilitation means the sign where the tradition rates a planet weakest.

Here is how the four rulers came out across the 100,000 charts.

RulerExaltedOwn signNeutralDebilitated
2nd8.06%14.66%68.73%8.54%
11th8.25%14.05%68.98%8.72%
6th7.92%15.45%67.82%8.81%
12th8.27%14.12%69.11%8.50%

At least one of the two earning rulers was debilitated in 15.11% of charts, and at least one of the two outflow rulers in 16.52%. Combustion is more common than either: the 2nd ruler was combust in 15.75% of charts and the 11th ruler in 16.54%, and one or other of them was combust in 26.61%. Put debilitation and combustion together and 37.61% of charts had an earning ruler that was weakened one way or the other.

That last number changes what you should look for. A chart with a strong 2nd ruler and a tie to the 12th is a chart with a real outflow and the means to fund it. A chart with a debilitated or combust 2nd ruler and the same tie is a chart where the outflow is meeting a weakened supply, and that is the combination that actually feels like leaking. Among the 69,528 charts in the sample that carried at least one placement tie, 16.48% had a debilitated planet taking part in it, 15.21% had an exalted one, 21.56% had one in its own sign, and 53.98% had all participants neutral. So roughly one tie in six is carrying a weakened leg, and that is the single most useful thing to check once you have found the tie at all.

Own sign means the sign that planet rules.

Who is standing in your 6th and 12th, and the Rahu-Ketu question

Rulership is one half. Occupancy is the other: which planets are physically sitting in those two houses.

Most charts have less going on there than people assume. Counting the seven classical planets and leaving the lunar nodes aside for a moment, the 6th house was empty in 59.60% of charts and the 12th in 59.62%. Both were empty at once in 32.36%, and both were occupied at once in only 13.14%. Adding Rahu and Ketu to the count, 27.13% of charts still had nothing at all in either house. An empty 6th and an empty 12th is the single most common arrangement there is, and it does not mean money is not going anywhere. It means the reading falls back entirely on the rulers, which is where this page started.

Rahu and Ketu are the two lunar nodes, the points where the Moon's path crosses the Sun's, and they are always exactly opposite each other, so they always occupy two houses six apart. That axis is where a great deal of fear gets attached, particularly the idea that having them across the 6th and 12th marks a life of unavoidable loss. The sample says the axis lands there about as often as it lands anywhere.

Where the node axis fallsShare of charts
Across the 6th and 12th16.50%
Across the 2nd and 8th16.84%
Across the 5th and 11th16.71%

Rahu's individual house came out between 8.10% and 8.59% across all twelve houses, which is as close to flat as a 100,000-chart sample gets. Specifically, Rahu was in the 12th in 8.26% of charts, Ketu in the 12th in 8.24%, Rahu in the 6th in 8.24% and Ketu in the 6th in 8.26%. One chart in six has the axis across the money-outflow houses because there are six possible axes and this is one of them. If you have it, Rahu in the 12th house and Ketu in the 12th house read the placement itself, and Ketu in the 2nd house covers the version that touches savings directly.

There is a counting habit worth dropping here as well. People add up planets in the 6th and 12th, compare that to planets in the 2nd and 11th, and treat the heavier side as the answer. In the sample, 37.41% of charts had more planets on the outflow side, 37.52% had more on the earning side, and 25.07% were level. The split is a coin flip across the population, which means the count carries almost no diagnostic weight on its own. Which planets they are, what they rule, and what condition they are in is what the reading rests on.

What the D2 hora chart adds: money made against money kept

The D2 is a divisional chart, meaning a second chart derived by cutting each sign of the birth chart into equal parts and reading where each planet lands. The D2 cuts every sign in half and is the division the tradition assigns to wealth specifically. In odd signs the first fifteen degrees belong to the Sun's half and the second fifteen to the Moon's; in even signs it reverses. Every planet therefore ends up in one of exactly two signs, Leo for the Sun's half and Cancer for the Moon's.

Our engine labels the two halves directly, and each half is called a hora. Planets in the Sun's hora belong to active, self-earned wealth: money that arrives because of initiative, visibility and work started by you. Planets in the Moon's hora belong to accumulated, flowing wealth: money that grows by being held, received and kept in motion. Applied to this question, it answers something the birth chart does not, which is whether your money is made or kept, and therefore which end of the problem an outflow is actually hitting.

Across the 100,000 charts, the seven planets split three-and-four or four-and-three between the two halves in 56.34% of cases, which makes a near-even chart the norm. A fully one-sided chart is rare: all seven in the Sun's half occurred in 0.66% of charts and all seven in the Moon's in 0.82%. Narrowing to the four rulers this page is about, all four fell in one hora in 17.21% of charts. Both earning rulers sat in the Sun's half in 28.69% and both in the Moon's half in 28.14%, so the earning side is about as likely to be one as the other. The arrangement worth looking for is the split: in 11.55% of charts the two earning rulers sat wholly in one half and the two outflow rulers wholly in the other, which reads as money made one way and lost another, and it is the configuration where a change in habit has the clearest target.

For the other divisions, the honest answer to "what do they say about money" is that they are asked different questions. Our engine computes the classical sixteen plus the D5 and the D8, and seven of those carry the readings this page leans on: the D2 for wealth, the D4 for home and property, the D5 for fame and authority, the D7 for children, the D8 for sudden events and obstacles, the D9 for the underlying strength of any placement, and the D10 for career and standing. If the question is money, the D2 is the one that answers it. Reading the D2 hora chart goes deeper on this one and how the divisional charts divide up covers the rest.

When the leak is live, and when it is dormant

Everything above is a standing arrangement, present from birth to death. It does not explain why money behaved one way for six years and another way after that. The dasha system does: a sequence of planetary periods running 120 years, in which one planet holds the mahadasha, the major period, for anything from six to twenty years, and inside it a second planet holds the antardasha, the sub-period, for months to a few years. A house comes forward when its ruler is running and recedes when it is not.

Dasha means the sequence of planetary chapters a life is divided into.

Because your four rulers are fixed by your rising sign, the share of the 120-year cycle they control is fixed too, and it can be computed exactly rather than estimated. It is far from even across the twelve ascendants.

Libra rising is the sharpest case in the table. Its outflow houses are ruled by Jupiter and Mercury, which hold 33 of the 120 years between them, while its earning houses are ruled by Mars and Sun, which hold 13. A Libra chart spends more than two and a half times as long in outflow-ruler periods as in earning-ruler periods, and that is true before anything is known about where those planets sit. Sagittarius rising runs the other way, at 32.5% earning against 22.5% outflow. For Pisces rising, Saturn's nineteen-year period appears on both sides of the table, because Saturn rules the 11th and the 12th together, so the same nineteen years are the gains chapter and the expense chapter at once.

Two more timing figures from the sample. The 6th ruler's own major period opened at a median age of 44.5, and had already opened before age 40 for 45.9% of charts. The 12th ruler's opened at a median age of 46.6, and before 40 for 44.8%. So for slightly under half of people, the period belonging to one of their outflow rulers arrives in the first four decades, and for the rest it is still ahead.

And the figure that matters most if you are asking this question today: as of 26 August 2026, 23.68% of the sampled charts were running a major period belonging to their 6th or 12th ruler, and 23.89% were running a sub-period belonging to one. Both at once applied to 5.71%, and that is the combination in which the theme is hardest to miss. Roughly one person in four is currently inside an outflow chapter, and that is a dated condition with an end, not a permanent feature of the chart. Knowing the date it ends is most of what people are asking for when they ask this question at all.

Four charts, computed and worked through

Each of these is a real computation from the engine, printed with the birth data so it can be reproduced. All four are cast with a known birth time. Each heading gives the birth details, the rising sign with the exact degree of the horizon, and the nakshatra, which is the segment of sky that degree falls in when the circle is divided into twenty-seven rather than twelve.

One: gains ruling into the house of expense

Born 24 September 1986, 09:28, Mumbai. Libra rising at 18.36 degrees, in the nakshatra Swati.

HouseSignRulerRuler sits inHouse it lands inCondition
2ndScorpioMarsSagittarius 28.813rdneutral
11thLeoSunVirgo 7.1512thneutral
6thPiscesJupiterAquarius 22.475thneutral
12thVirgoMercuryVirgo 21.4212thexalted

The 11th ruler, the Sun, is standing in the 12th house, and the 12th ruler, Mercury, is standing in its own house in the sign where it is exalted. Both are in Virgo, so they are also conjunct. Ketu sits with them, and Rahu sits opposite in the 6th, which puts the node axis across exactly the two houses this page is about. Two of the five forms are present at once, and the second of them, the conjunction, is the Sun and Mercury pair that occurs in 51.3% of Libra charts, so it is the least remarkable part of the arrangement.

What is remarkable is the direction. Nothing has come into this chart's earning houses from outside. Instead the ruler of gains has gone out to the house of expense and is keeping company with a very strong expense ruler. Mercury exalted in its own 12th is a well-appointed outflow: the tradition reads it as expenditure that is competent, organised and often deliberate, including money spent abroad or on things kept private. The reading is not of money vanishing. It is of income being converted into outgoings capably and immediately.

The 2nd ruler, Mars, is untouched by any of this, sitting in the 3rd. So the savings house in this chart is not itself exposed. The exposure is entirely on the income side, and someone with this chart is likely to recognise the pattern of earning well and seeing very little of it settle.

On timing, this chart entered Jupiter's major period on 25 June 2017, running to 25 June 2033. Jupiter rules the 6th here, so sixteen years of this life belong to the ruler of debt, competition and daily work. The sub-period from 7 May 2025 to 6 January 2028 belongs to Venus, which rules the 1st and the 8th.

Two: one planet holding both the gains and the losses

Born 10 April 1999, 04:21, Kolkata. Pisces rising at 4.63 degrees, in the nakshatra Uttara Bhadrapada.

HouseSignRulerRuler sits inHouse it lands inCondition
2ndAriesMarsLibra 15.228thneutral
11thCapricornSaturnAries 10.692nddebilitated, combust
6thLeoSunPisces 25.791stneutral
12thAquariusSaturnAries 10.692nddebilitated, combust

This is the Pisces structure from the ascendant table, and it is the reason that row reads 100%. Saturn rules the 11th and the 12th together, so in this chart gains and expenses are the same planet's business, and no placement is needed for the two to be connected.

The placement then sharpens it. That same Saturn is standing in the 2nd house, the store, which is the second form of tie: an outflow ruler arriving in an earning house. It is debilitated in Aries, the sign where the tradition rates it weakest, and it is combust, sitting 14.9 degrees from the Sun and lost in its light. So the single planet responsible for both what arrives and what leaves is weak on two counts and is doing its work inside the savings house.

The reading follows from the structure rather than from anything added to it. Income and expenditure in this chart move together, because one planet governs both, and neither is strong. Ketu sits in the 11th, and the 2nd ruler Mars has gone to the 8th. The 6th, meanwhile, is empty, and its ruler the Sun is in the 1st house, which puts debt and daily work close to the person rather than at a distance.

The timing is the part that reading placements alone would miss. This chart has been in Rahu's major period since 15 May 2018, running to 14 May 2036, and Rahu rules no sign at all, so it holds no house here. Saturn's own major period does not open until 14 May 2052, at age 53, and then runs nineteen years to 2071. The structure described above is fully present in the chart and is twenty-six years away from being the chapter that is running, and someone reading only the placements would date it wrong by a working lifetime.

Three: an exchange between the house of gains and the house of debt

Born 3 December 1978, 12:57, Bengaluru. Aquarius rising at 25.71 degrees, in the nakshatra Purva Bhadrapada.

Aquarius rising puts Jupiter on both earning houses, the concentration case. Jupiter has then gone to Cancer, which is this chart's 6th house, and is exalted there. The Moon, which rules that 6th house, has gone to Sagittarius, which is this chart's 11th. Each planet is standing in the house the other rules. That is a parivartana, the exchange, and it occurred in 2.58% of the sample, with this particular pairing of the 11th and the 6th in 0.45%.

An exchange binds the two houses together for the life of the chart, and here it binds income directly to debt, competition and service. The tradition reads that as a life where earning and obligation are the same activity: income comes through work done against resistance or for others, and borrowing tends to be structural rather than accidental. The exalted Jupiter is the strong element. A chart's single planet for both earning houses, at full strength, standing in the house of competition, reads as someone whose earning capacity is genuinely large and is expressed through effort rather than through ease.

The 12th ruler, Saturn, is in the 7th and is out of this arrangement entirely, so the expense house in this chart is not tied to the earning side. The exposure is specifically to the 6th, which is a different problem from the one in the first chart. The 6th is also the house where debt is defeated, and a strong ruler of the earning houses placed there is read as capacity to clear what is owed rather than only to incur it.

This chart entered Jupiter's own major period on 1 June 2019, running to 1 June 2035, which means the exalted ruler of both earning houses is currently running its own sixteen-year chapter. The sub-period from 8 May 2026 to 14 April 2027 belongs to Ketu, which rules no house here.

Four: the chart with no tie at all

Born 25 October 1975, 18:22, Jaipur. Aries rising at 19.18 degrees, in the nakshatra Bharani.

11thAquariusSaturnCancer 9.074thneutral
6thVirgoMercuryVirgo 19.706thexalted
12thPiscesJupiterPisces 24.5512thown sign

Nothing connects the two sides of this chart. Neither earning ruler is in an outflow house, neither outflow ruler is in an earning house, none of them shares a sign with another, and Aries rising has four different planets on the four houses. This chart is in the 22.91% that carry no tie of any kind.

The outflow houses are also self-contained. The 6th ruler Mercury is in the 6th and exalted there. The 12th ruler Jupiter is in the 12th and in its own sign. Each of those two placements occurs on its own in about one chart in eleven, at 8.93% and 8.70%, and both together in 0.54%. Nothing else is in either house: Rahu is in the 7th and Ketu in the 1st. So debt and expense in this chart are strong, well-run and firmly in their own compartments, and neither reaches the store or the income.

That is not the same as saying this person has no expenses or no debt, and it is worth being exact about what the difference is. A strong 6th ruler at home reads as someone who handles obligation competently, wins against competitors, and clears what they take on. A strong 12th ruler at home reads as expenditure that is substantial and under control, often on things chosen deliberately. What the chart lacks is the mechanism by which those outflows reach the earning houses. Money in this chart leaves through a door of its own rather than through the savings.

The timing carries a complication that this chart's owner is living through right now. Mercury's major period opened on 24 March 2026 and runs seventeen years to 24 March 2043, and Mercury rules the 6th here. The first sub-period inside it belongs to Mercury as well, from 24 March 2026 to 19 August 2028. So a chart with no structural tie has just entered a seventeen-year chapter belonging to its 6th ruler, and the affairs of debt, competition and daily work will be at the front of this life for a long time. Structure and timing are two different questions, and this chart answers the first one favourably and the second one loudly.

What the answer is actually good for

The chart does not carry an amount and nothing computable from a birth time does. What it carries is a shape, and there are four things a shape is useful for.

It tells you which end is exposed. A tie that reaches your 2nd house is a savings problem, and one that reaches your 11th is an income problem. Those want different responses, and the placement table above says which one you have.

It tells you the direction. An earning ruler that has gone out to an outflow house behaves differently from an outflow ruler that has come into an earning house, and the two feel different from the inside, as the first and second worked charts show.

It tells you the strength. A tie with a debilitated or combust participant is the one worth attention, and that describes 16.48% of the charts that had a tie at all. A tie between two neutral or strong planets is a channel with a competent planet standing in it.

And it tells you the dates. This is the part a chart does best. Your outflow rulers hold a fixed and computable share of your 120 years, the periods they run have exact start and end dates, and roughly one person in four is inside one of those periods at any moment. If money has behaved differently for the last several years than it did before, the dasha ladder is the first place to look for the reason, and the answer comes with a date on it.

What none of this supports is a decision about a specific instrument, a loan, a purchase or a counterparty. A chart describes tendency and timing. It does not price anything, and any reading that turns a placement into a number has left the chart behind.

If the specific version of this you are living with is debt rather than expense, why I keep falling into debt is the 6th-house side of the same structure. If the money arrives and does not stay, why money comes and goes but never stays works through the 2nd-house version, and why I cannot seem to save money covers the same ground from the habit side. If the feeling is that nothing arrives at all, that is a different question and is wealth blocked in my chart is the one to read.

Running this on your own chart

You can do the whole of the public half of this yourself, and it takes about ten minutes.

The free kundli tool needs no account. Enter your date, time and place of birth and it returns your rising sign, every planet with its sign and house number, and your current planetary period. Take your rising sign to the ascendant table on this page and read off your four rulers. Then find each of those four planets in the tool's output and note the house number beside it. You now have everything the five rules need. The free dasha tool gives the same chart's major period and sub-period with dates, if you want to check the timing question as well.

A free account includes two Chart Chat questions, which reads your computed kundli and answers against it rather than against a general description. It holds every placement in your chart, including the occupants and rulers of your 6th and 12th and the condition each planet is in, so it is the right place to ask what your specific debilitated 11th ruler means, or which of your outflow ruler's sub-periods are still ahead of you. That is the question this page cannot answer for you, because the answer is different for every reader.

The Wealth Window report is the deeper version on the earning side. It names the rulers of your 2nd and 11th houses and where they sit, detects the money combinations your chart carries, reads your money axis through the placements it actually rests on, and scores the next twelve months as dated windows for committing and for sitting still. It is the report to buy if the question underneath the leak is where your money is supposed to come from and when.

Yoga means a named combination of planets the tradition reads as a unit.

Common questions

Does having a tie mean I will always struggle with money?
No, and the base rate is the reason to be careful with that claim. 77.09% of charts carry one. A feature present in three charts out of four cannot be the thing that separates people who struggle with money from people who do not, because both groups have it at roughly the same rate. What varies far more between charts is the condition of the planets in the tie and whether their periods are running, and those are the two things to check next.
My 6th and 12th houses are empty. Is that good?
It is the most common arrangement there is. Both houses were empty of the seven classical planets in 32.36% of charts, and empty even counting Rahu and Ketu in 27.13%. An empty house is not an inactive one: it is read through its ruler, which is somewhere else in the chart doing something. So an empty 6th and 12th moves the whole question onto where your 6th and 12th rulers are sitting, which is the table earlier on this page.
I have Rahu in my 12th house. How bad is that?
It occurred in 8.26% of the charts we computed, which is roughly the rate you would get from a planet landing in a house at random, and Rahu's twelve house rates ran between 8.10% and 8.59%. The placement has a real reading and Rahu in the 12th house covers it. What it is not is rare or a mark of unusual misfortune. The node axis falls across the 6th and 12th in 16.50% of charts, about as often as it falls across the 2nd and 8th or the 5th and 11th.
Is this the same as Vipreet Raja Yoga?
No, though the houses overlap. That combination is about the rulers of the 6th, 8th and 12th being placed among each other, with no reference to the 2nd or the 11th. This page is about the rulers of the outflow houses being connected to the rulers of the earning houses. A chart can carry both, one, or neither. Do I have Vipreet Raja Yoga works through that one and reports its own base rates.
Can I check this without my birth time?
Not properly. The four houses are counted from the rising sign, and without a birth time there is no rising sign, so there are no house numbers and no way to know which planets rule your 2nd, 11th, 6th and 12th. Our engine returns Moon-based results in that case and states which parts of the reading are unavailable rather than assuming a time. If your birth time is unknown within a few hours, the honest position is that this question is undetermined for you, and narrowing the birth time is the thing to do before anything else on this page.
My friend and I were born the same day. Why are our answers different?
If you were born far enough apart for the rising sign to change, and it changes roughly every two hours, the four houses sit on different signs for each of you and are therefore ruled by different planets. The whole check then runs on a different set of four. Two people born the same morning in the same hospital can land on opposite sides of this, and one of them can be in the 22.91% with no tie while the other is in the 2.58% with an exchange.
Does a strong 6th or 12th house make the leak worse?
Usually the opposite, and this is the most common misreading on the subject. A strong ruler of the 6th reads as competence with debt and competition, and a strong ruler of the 12th as expenditure that is organised and often deliberate. The fourth worked chart above has both, and it reads as the tidiest of the four. What makes an outflow difficult is a weak earning ruler on the other side of the tie, which described 37.61% of the charts we computed once combustion is counted alongside debilitation.
Which one thing should I look at first?
Whether either of your two earning rulers is debilitated or combust. It is a single lookup, it applies to 37.61% of charts, and it separates a chart with a real outflow and the means to fund it from a chart where the outflow is meeting a weakened supply. Everything else on this page refines the picture. That one changes it. --- Related: Dhana yoga, a named wealth combination · Do I have Vipreet Raja Yoga · Parivartana yoga · Reading the D2 hora chart · Why I keep falling into debt · Why money comes and goes but never stays · Is wealth blocked in my life · All money guides
