Guru Purnima 2026: Honouring the Teacher

Guru Purnima falls on 29 July 2026, on the full moon of Ashadha, Ashadha Purnima, which we confirmed against the panchang. It is the day set aside to honour the guru, the teacher who removes darkness, from the spiritual master to the parent and the mentor.

The Word and the Day

Guru is often read as the one who leads from darkness, gu, to light, ru. The full moon, the Purnima, is the natural symbol of this, the Moon at its fullest reflected light. The day is also called Vyasa Purnima, marking the birth of the sage Vyasa, who compiled the Vedas and the Mahabharata, the teacher of teachers.
