Financial Rock Bottom. What the Chart Says Comes Next

A user typed this into AstroMedha's chart chat in his own words: "i am in debt and no earnings, can i get out of this situation". One hundred and eighty-two other people asked a version of the same thing in the same few months.

A Vedic reading does not treat that as a condition you are in. It treats it as a period you are inside, and a period has a ruling planet and an end date. Both come out of one number, which is where the Moon stood in the sky at the minute you were born.

Three things fix the date. The first is which planet's sub-period is running over you now and the day it stops. The second is whether that planet is one of the two your rising sign has a structural problem with, because the same planet lifts one person's finances and flattens another's, and which of those it does is decided by the sign that was rising in the east when you were born. The third is where Saturn and Rahu are sitting right now relative to your birth Moon, since those two are the slow ones and they are the reason a bad year turns into a bad four years.

The second and third of those are set out below in full, with the lordship tables you need to read your own case and four real charts worked from beginning to end. The first one, the sub-period running over you now, is the one that produces the date, and it comes from your own birth details and from nowhere else. The free calculators that return it are linked at each step.

The period frame, and why it changes the question

Vedic timing runs on Vimshottari, the system that divides a life into 120 years of planetary chapters in a fixed sequence. Each chapter is a dasha, meaning a stretch of time ruled by one planet. The long chapter is the mahadasha, the one that runs from six to twenty years. Inside it, the same nine planets each take a turn in the same order, and each turn is an antardasha, the sub-period. Inside that, the nine take a turn again, and each of those is a pratyantar, the third level down, which runs from weeks to a few months.

The lengths are fixed and known in advance. Ketu holds 7 years, Venus 20, the Sun 6, the Moon 10, Mars 7, Rahu 18, Jupiter 16, Saturn 19, Mercury 17. The order never changes and it wraps around, so once you know which chapter you were born into and how much of it was already spent, every boundary of your life is arithmetic. Nothing about the rest of it needs to be looked up.

That is what converts "when does this end" from a hope into a calculation. It also converts it into a real answer rather than a comforting one, because sometimes the arithmetic returns a date three years out.

The next question is usually whether every hard stretch is just a period. It is not, and the difference is measurable. A period gets read as heavy or light by four things, applied in this order: how far the sub-period's ruling planet sits from the chapter's ruling planet, counted in whole signs; whether each of those two planets helps or hinders for your particular rising sign; the condition of each planet by sign and by how close it stands to the Sun; and which house each of them occupies. The first two carry most of the weight. Both are worked below with the tables you need for your own chart.

Why the same planet wrecks one person and carries another

Jupiter is the planet Indian households treat as the benevolent one. For a Libra rising sign, Jupiter owns the 6th house, which is the house of debt, and the 3rd, and classical practice puts it on the list of planets that ascendant should not be strengthening. For a Sagittarius rising sign, the same Jupiter owns the 1st house and the 4th and is the best thing in the chart. Nothing about Jupiter changed. What changed is which houses it was handed.

This is called functional nature, and the rule behind it is simple enough to apply yourself. Take your lagna, the sign that was rising on the eastern horizon at your birth. Count the twelve signs forward from it. Whichever planet rules the sign that lands on your 6th house, and whichever rules your 8th, are the two the classical texts warn against strengthening. Whichever rules your 1st, 5th or 9th is on your side. A planet that rules both a corner house, meaning the 4th, 7th or 10th, and a trine, meaning the 5th or 9th, is called a yogakaraka, and it is the strongest single asset an ascendant can be handed.

One planet often ends up owning a house from each list, and there is a fixed order of precedence for it. The trine wins. A Cancer rising sign has Jupiter on the 6th and the 9th at once, and Jupiter counts as helpful for that ascendant, which is why it appears in the left column of the table below rather than the right.

Here is the whole map. Find your rising sign in the left column.

Rahu and Ketu are missing from every row on purpose. Neither of them rules a sign, so neither has a functional nature of its own for any ascendant, and both get read from where they sit instead.

Now the part that answers "why does this feel bottomless for me". The planets in the third column hold different amounts of your life, because the nine chapters are different lengths. Multiply each ascendant's difficult planets by the years they hold and the spread is wide:

GeminiMars (7)75.8%
VirgoMars (7)75.8%
CapricornSun (6)65.0%

A Sagittarius ascendant carries five times as much of the cycle under a difficult ruler as a Capricorn ascendant does. That is a structural difference between two people born a day apart in the same hospital, and it is a large part of why one of them can describe a decade as relentless and the other cannot understand what he means.

A 5.0% share is not a promise of an easy life and a 25.0% share is not a sentence. The share only counts the chapters ruled by a difficult planet; it says nothing about the other three scoring terms, and a Capricorn ascendant with its difficult planet badly placed can have a harder run than a Sagittarius ascendant with its two well placed. What the table does establish is that the raw exposure is not equal, so comparing your decade against someone else's is comparing two unequal exposures.

The second term: how far the two ruling planets sit apart

Take the planet ruling your current long chapter and find which sign it occupies in your birth chart. Now take the planet ruling the sub-period inside it and find its sign. Count from the first to the second, going forward through the zodiac, counting the starting sign as one.

If the answer is 6, 8 or 12, the sub-period reads as heavy. If the answer is 5 or 9, it reads as supported. Any other count contributes nothing either way at this step, and the period is then decided by the three tests that follow it. The one exception is a count of 1, meaning both planets sit in the same sign, which gets read from the natures of the two that are joined.

The reason the count matters more than either planet's own reputation is that this is the rule practitioners reach for first when judging a sub-period, and the scoring used in AstroMedha's readings weights it heaviest for the same reason. A planet 6, 8 or 12 signs from the chapter's ruler is working across the chapter rather than with it, whatever else is true about it.

Two consequences follow, and both of them turn up in the worked charts below. A planet that is functionally good for your ascendant can still hand you a hard sub-period, if it sits 12 signs from the chapter's ruler. And two ordinary planets with nothing wrong with either can produce the lowest-scoring sub-period on your ladder purely because of where they stand relative to each other.

The money houses, and which planet owns yours

Five houses carry the money question, and each has a specific job:

  • The 2nd is wealth, speech, family, what you gather and hold.
  • The 6th is debt, illness, competition and daily discipline. This is the house money owed lives in.
  • The 8th is endings, upheaval and the hidden, which in money terms is the sudden loss and the thing you did not see coming.
  • The 11th is gains, income, friends and the desires that arrive. This is the house money coming in lives in.
  • The 12th is retreat, foreign lands, expense and release, which is money leaving.

Which planet owns each of those in your chart follows from your rising sign and nothing else:

Rising sign2nd lord (wealth)6th lord (debt)8th lord (loss)11th lord (income)12th lord (outgo)

VirgoVenusSaturnMarsMoonSun
LibraMarsJupiterVenusSunMercury
ScorpioJupiterMarsMercuryMercuryVenus
SagittariusSaturnVenusMoonVenusMars
CapricornSaturnMercurySunMarsJupiter
AquariusJupiterMoonMercuryJupiterSaturn
PiscesMarsSunVenusSaturnSaturn

Read across your row and one thing tends to jump out. For a Sagittarius rising sign, Venus owns the 6th and the 11th at once, so the planet holding the debt is the same planet holding the income, and its twenty-year chapter is the longest in the system. For a Taurus rising sign, Jupiter owns the 8th and the 11th together. For an Aquarius rising sign, Jupiter owns the 2nd and the 11th, which is both money houses in one planet.

The obvious next worry is whether a 6th lord's sub-period means going further into debt. It does not, and the reason is in the house's own description: the 6th covers debt and competition together, in the same breath. It is the house of what opposes you and of the fight against it. A sub-period belonging to your 6th lord is the stretch when debt is the live subject, which includes the stretch when it gets fought down. What the reading says about which of those is happening comes from the rest of the chart, not from the lordship alone. Chart C below is exactly this case and the answer for it is specific.

Where Saturn and Rahu are right now

Saturn and Rahu are the two slow bodies, and they are the reason a hard year extends. Saturn spends about two and a half years per sign. Rahu spends about eighteen months and travels backwards through the zodiac.

On 26 August 2026 Saturn stands at 19 degrees 44 minutes of Pisces, in the Revati lunar mansion, moving retrograde. Retrograde means it appears to travel backwards against the fixed stars as seen from here. This backward stretch began on 27 July 2026 and ends on 11 December 2026, after which Saturn goes forward again in the same sign. It entered Pisces on 29 March 2025 and first crosses into Aries on 3 June 2027, retreats into Pisces on 20 October 2027, and settles in Aries on 23 February 2028.

Rahu stands at 5 degrees 22 minutes of Aquarius, in Dhanishta, with Ketu opposite it at 5 degrees 22 minutes of Leo, in Magha. Rahu entered Aquarius on 18 May 2025 and moves into Capricorn on 5 December 2026.

Jupiter, which moves about a sign a year and is the fastest of the slow ones, stands at 18 degrees 18 minutes of Cancer in Ashlesha, going forward. It reaches Leo on 31 October 2026.

Here is where each of them falls counted from your birth Moon sign, with the house's own subject named:

Your Moon signSaturnRahuJupiter
Aries12th, expenses and endings11th, gains and income4th, home and property
Taurus11th, gains and income10th, career and standing3rd, effort and short travel
Gemini10th, career and standing9th, fortune and elders2nd, finances and family
Cancer9th, fortune and elders8th, sudden events and the hidden1st, self and new beginnings

Aquarius2nd, finances and family1st, self and new beginnings6th, debt, rivals and routine
Pisces1st, self and new beginnings12th, expenses and endings5th, creativity and speculation

Two dates move that table. On 5 December 2026 Rahu changes sign, and because it travels backwards, every entry in its column drops by one house: an Aquarius Moon goes from the 1st to the 12th, a Capricorn Moon from the 2nd to the 1st, a Sagittarius Moon from the 3rd to the 2nd. On 3 June 2027 Saturn changes sign and every entry in its column advances by one: an Aquarius Moon loses Saturn from the 2nd house of finances after twenty-six months of it, and an Aries Moon takes Saturn onto the 1st. Saturn then reverses back for a final four months, 20 October 2027 to 23 February 2028, and every entry returns to where it is today for that stretch before advancing for good.

Read your row for the two entries that touch money directly. Saturn in the 2nd or the 11th is the slow squeeze on what you hold and what comes in, and it is the transit that most often sits underneath a description like "no earnings". Rahu stands for appetite, obsession and amplification, so Rahu in the 2nd or the 12th reads as money moving in ways you did not plan rather than money that is absent, which is a different problem and takes a different response.

If your Moon is in Aries, Aquarius or Pisces

Saturn is in the 12th, 2nd or 1st house from your Moon, and passing through those three in sequence is what Sade Sati means, the roughly seven-and-a-half-year passage most Indian readers have heard of before they hear anything else. The spans below come from Saturn's actual computed sign changes rather than from rounding to the traditional figure:

Your Moon signThe passage runsWhere it is now
Aquarius24 January 2020 to 3 June 2027, then a last pass 20 October 2027 to 23 February 2028closing phase, nine months of the main stretch left
Pisces29 April 2022 to 8 August 2029, then a last pass 5 October 2029 to 17 April 2030middle phase
Aries29 March 2025 to 31 May 2032opening phase, seventeen months in

The Pisces row starts earlier than most published calendars say, and the reason is worth a line because it applies to nearly every Moon sign. Saturn first entered Aquarius, which is the 12th from a Pisces Moon, on 29 April 2022. It then stepped back into Capricorn on 12 July 2022 and did not settle into Aquarius until 17 January 2023. Calendars that print the settled date drop the first pass and start the passage eight and a half months late.

An Aquarius Moon reading this after two bad financial years is near the end of it. An Aries Moon is near the beginning, which is a harder thing to be told, so the passage deserves to be described precisely. Saturn's transit through those three houses slows and tests rather than closes. Income continues inside it. What tends to hold true is that money arrives later than agreed, that outgoings appear from directions you did not budget for, and that anything built on an assumption gets asked to prove itself. The response that works is to lower the risk rather than the ambition, and to keep obligations current even when the amounts are small, because the passage punishes gaps in a record more than it punishes small numbers in one.

Four people at the bottom, and the four dates

Below are four real charts, computed on 26 August 2026 through the same engine that produces AstroMedha's readings, chosen because all four were in the hardest quartile of their own ladder on that date. Each is taken through the three inputs and ends with a date.

The four dates are not close together. That is the point of showing four.

Chart A: born 19 November 1998, 21:50, Kolkata

Cancer rising, Moon in Scorpio in the Anuradha lunar mansion. Twenty-seven years old.

  • The chapter: Mercury, running 18 March 2010 to 18 March 2027. Seventeen years, and it is in its final months.
  • The sub-period: Saturn, from 8 July 2024 to 18 March 2027.
  • Why it is the worst stretch on this ladder: Saturn owns the 7th and the 8th houses for a Cancer rising sign, which makes it the one planet this ascendant is warned about, and the 8th is the loss house. Mercury sits in Scorpio in this chart and Saturn sits in Aries, which is 6 signs along, the first of the three hard counts. Saturn is also debilitated here. Every planet is exalted, meaning at its strongest, in one particular sign, and debilitated, meaning at its weakest, in the sign directly opposite. Saturn's weakest sign is Aries, and Aries is where this chart has it. Three of the four scoring terms point the same way, and the result is the lowest score anywhere in this chart's twenty-four-year window.
  • The transits: Saturn is in the 5th from this Moon and Rahu in the 4th, so neither of them is on a money house. For this person the pressure is coming from the sub-period and not from the sky, which matters because it means the relief does not have to wait for Saturn to change sign.
  • What is left of it: the current pratyantar is Rahu, to 7 November 2026. The one after it is Jupiter, from 7 November 2026 to 18 March 2027, and it scores lower than the one before it. The last four months are the heaviest part.
  • The date: 18 March 2027. The Mercury chapter ends and a seven-year Ketu chapter opens, and its first sub-period lifts this chart out of the bottom quartile for the first time since July 2024. Total length of the difficult stretch: 32 months.

Chart B: born 12 November 1981, 06:15, Coimbatore

Libra rising, Moon in Aries in the Krittika lunar mansion. Forty-four years old.

  • The chapter: Jupiter, running 27 July 2022 to 27 July 2038.
  • The sub-period: Saturn, from 14 September 2024 to 28 March 2027.
  • Why it is heavy, and this one is instructive: Saturn is the yogakaraka for a Libra rising sign, ruling the 4th and the 5th, which makes it the best planet in the chart. It still produced a bottom-quartile stretch, because natal Jupiter sits in Libra and natal Saturn sits in Virgo, which is 12 signs along. The count between the two ruling planets overrode the quality of one of them. Underneath that, Jupiter itself owns the 6th house of debt for this ascendant, so the sixteen-year chapter this person is in is ruled by the debt lord from beginning to end.
  • The transits: Saturn is in the 12th from this Moon, which is the opening phase of the Sade Sati passage that runs to 31 May 2032. Rahu is in the 11th, on gains.
  • The date: 28 March 2027. Saturn's turn ends and Mercury's begins, and Mercury rules the 9th and 12th for a Libra rising sign, which puts it on the helpful side. The pratyantar ladder inside that sub-period reads restorative for nineteen unbroken months, from 28 March 2027 to 3 November 2028. Total length of the difficult stretch: 56 months, from July 2022.
  • The honest caveat: the sixteen-year Jupiter chapter continues to 2038 and its ruler is still the debt lord. What changes in March 2027 is the sub-period, not the chapter. Someone on this chart should plan around a good three-year window rather than a permanent change of weather.

Chart C: born 19 August 1990, 21:50, Indore

Aries rising, Moon in Cancer in the Ashlesha lunar mansion. Thirty-six years old.

  • The chapter: Venus, running 20 November 2007 to 20 November 2027.
  • The sub-period: Mercury, ending 20 September 2026, followed immediately by Ketu to 20 November 2027.
  • Why this is the hardest of the four: Mercury owns the 6th house of debt for an Aries rising sign and is the only planet this ascendant is warned about. Its 34-month sub-period is ending. The trouble is what follows it. The Ketu sub-period after it also scores in the bottom quartile, and so did the Saturn sub-period before it. Three consecutive sub-periods land in the same band, which means this chart has been in its own hardest quartile continuously from 19 September 2020 to 20 November 2027, a run of 86 months.
  • The transits: Rahu is in the 8th from this Moon until 5 December 2026, on sudden events and the hidden, and Saturn is in the 9th. Jupiter sits on the Moon itself.
  • The date: 20 November 2027. The Venus chapter ends and a six-year Sun chapter opens. The Sun rules the 5th house for an Aries rising sign, is functionally good, and stands in Leo, a sign it rules itself. The first sub-period of that chapter is the first positive score this chart produces anywhere between 2013 and 2027, and all five of the highest-scoring stretches in its ladder fall inside the six years of the Sun chapter.
  • What to do with the fourteen months in between: the pratyantar ladder inside the Ketu sub-period is not uniform. Two windows in it come out of the bottom band, 25 December 2026 to 15 January 2027 and 19 May to 15 July 2027. Two others stay in it, 14 October to 25 December 2026 and 15 July to 20 September 2027, and the second of those is the lower of the two. Knowing where all four fall is what turns a fourteen-month wait into something that can be planned around.

Chart D: born 12 May 1977, 21:50, Guwahati

Sagittarius rising, Moon in Aquarius in the Purva Bhadrapada lunar mansion. Forty-nine years old.

  • The chapter: Venus, which began 14 August 2026, twelve days before this was computed, and runs twenty years to 14 August 2046.
  • The sub-period: Venus again, to 14 December 2029. A chapter always opens with its own ruler's sub-period, and a Venus sub-period inside a Venus chapter is forty months, the longest single sub-period the system contains.
  • Why a new chapter made it worse: Venus owns the 6th and the 11th for a Sagittarius rising sign, which means it is the debt lord and the income lord at once, and it is on the list of planets this ascendant is warned about. Venus is exalted in this chart, standing in Pisces, which is the sign where it is strongest. Strength and direction are separate questions. An exalted planet does its own work forcefully, and this planet's work includes the 6th house.
  • The transits: Saturn is in the 2nd from this Moon, on finances and family, and has been since March 2025. It leaves on 3 June 2027, returns for a last four months from 20 October 2027, and is gone from 23 February 2028. Rahu is on the Moon itself until 5 December 2026, after which it moves to the 12th.
  • The date: 14 December 2029. Venus hands the sub-period to the Sun, which rules the 9th for a Sagittarius rising sign, is functionally good, and is exalted in this chart. It runs twelve months, and it is the only sub-period anywhere in the twenty-year Venus chapter that comes out in the top band. Everything else in that chapter reads mixed or worse, through to 2039.
  • Which is more than three years away, so the useful answer is one level down. One pratyantar inside the forty months comes out of the bottom band: the Sun's, from 5 March 2027 to 5 May 2027, which is two months. After it, the two least-loaded stretches available are Saturn's, from 3 October 2028 to 14 April 2029, and Mars's, from 14 August to 24 October 2027. Nothing else inside the forty months reads better than mixed, and saying so is more use than dressing one of them up.

The four side by side

Four people, four rising signs, one question, and four dates spread across nearly three years. Two of them end because a chapter turns over and two because a sub-period does. Chart C's 86 months answers why this can feel like it has no floor. Seven consecutive years in the hardest quartile of a life is long enough that a person stops expecting an end to it, which is the point at which a period gets mistaken for a permanent condition.

What the turn is, and what it is not

The bands used above are relative to each chart's own ladder, because there is no absolute scale to compare a life against. So the word to attach to a turn is lifts, not arrives. What changes on Chart A's 18 March 2027 is that the sub-period stops working against the chapter. Money showing up is a separate event with its own causes, most of which are things you do.

That distinction changes what a date is good for. A date is useful for two things. It tells you how long you have to hold a position, which decides whether you take the smaller job or wait for the better one. And it tells you when to make the move you have been holding back, because a move made inside a supported window costs less to make than the same move eight months earlier.

What it does not tell you is the amount. Nothing in a period calculation returns a number in rupees, and any reading that hands you one has left the method behind.

Three minutes of birth time changed which planet was to blame

Every date on this page rests on the Moon's exact position at the moment of birth, and the rising sign rests on the exact minute. The four charts were re-run at plus and minus ten, thirty and sixty minutes to measure what an inaccurate birth time actually costs.

ChartChapter born intoOne hour of error moves every boundary byThe rising sign changes at
ASaturn, 19 years260 days62 minutes earlier, or 74 minutes later
BSun, 6 years105 days103 minutes earlier, or 23 minutes later
CMercury, 17 years266 days3 minutes earlier, or 99 minutes later
DJupiter, 16 years228 days88 minutes earlier, or 38 minutes later

The second column explains the third. Every boundary in a life shifts together, and the size of the shift scales with the length of the chapter you were born into, because that is the chapter whose unspent portion the wrong time changed. Chart B was born into the six-year Sun chapter and moves 105 days per hour of error. Chart C was born into the seventeen-year Mercury chapter and moves 266.

Chart C is also the one to look at for the other failure. Its rising sign sits 0.69 degrees into Aries, three minutes from the Pisces boundary. Move the birth time back three minutes and the ascendant becomes Pisces, and the planets this chart is warned about change from Mercury alone to the Sun and Venus. The distress is the same distress, the years are the same years, and the planet named as responsible is a different planet. Everything the reading then says about which sub-periods to prepare for changes with it.

Chart D shows a second way it goes wrong. Ten minutes earlier and this person is still inside a Ketu chapter that ends on 21 September 2026, rather than having entered a twenty-year Venus chapter on 14 August. The difference between those two readings is not a matter of degree.

Chart B shows a third. Sixty-two minutes earlier the Moon falls back into the previous lunar mansion, and the chapter this person was born into changes from the Sun to Venus, which replaces the entire timeline with a different one.

If your birth time is a family estimate. Use the date and the place, and accept two things. Houses get counted from your Moon sign instead of your rising sign, which is the standard fallback and needs only the date. And every period date carries a margin of a season either side, which measured between three and nine months per hour of doubt across these four charts. That is still a usable answer, and it is a considerably better one than a precise-looking date built on a guessed minute.

What to do between now and the date

The chart gives you a season. What happens inside it stays yours. Three cases cover most of what people in this position are actually facing.

If the turn is inside about six months. Hold the position. Chart A has 32 months behind it and under seven months in front, and the last four of those months score lower than the ones before them, which is the ordinary shape of the end of a hard sub-period. Taking on new fixed obligations in the final stretch is the mistake this pattern produces most often, because the pressure peaks just before it lifts and the pressure is what drives the decision. Keep the obligations you have current, keep the record continuous, and do the preparation now for the thing you intend to start after the date.

If the turn is a year or more away. Read one level down. Chart C has fourteen months to wait, with two clear windows inside them and two stretches to keep clear of, all four dated above. Chart D has forty months and one clear window inside it. A long wait broken into named stretches is something you can plan around, and the pratyantar level is where those stretches come from. Take the smaller income inside the wait rather than holding out, and treat the good windows as the place to renegotiate, refinance or move, since those are the actions whose cost depends most on timing.

If the chapter itself is ruled by your difficult planet. Chart B is in a sixteen-year Jupiter chapter and Jupiter owns its 6th house, so the debt subject stays live until 2038 whatever the sub-periods do. The answer there is structural rather than a matter of waiting. Build the plan around the good sub-periods inside the chapter, which for that chart is March 2027 to November 2028, and do not build it around the chapter ending. Someone in this situation who waits for the chapter is waiting for a date twelve years out.

Across all three, the instruction that does not change is to know your own dates rather than borrowing the shape of somebody else's. Four people at the bottom on the same morning got 18 March 2027, 28 March 2027, 20 November 2027 and 14 December 2029.

Getting your own four numbers

Everything above needs four things from you, and all four come from your birth date, birth time and birth place.

  1. Your chapter and sub-period, with both end dates. The free dasha calculator returns the planet ruling your long chapter, the planet ruling the sub-period inside it, and the dates each of them ends. No account needed.
  2. Your rising sign, which decides the whole functional-nature column. The free kundli calculator returns it along with your Moon sign and every planet's placement, which is what you need to count the sign distance between your two ruling planets.
  3. Whether the method reads your past correctly. The hardest-years check scores the sub-periods you have already lived and names the most demanding of them with dates, so you can mark it right or wrong from your own memory before you trust anything it says about the years ahead. If the years it names are not the years that were hard, the method has your chart wrong, and that is worth finding out first.
  4. Where Saturn is from your Moon. The Sade Sati calculator returns which phase you are in, if any, and the date it lifts.

Common questions

Does a Vedic reading treat debt as a permanent condition?
No, it treats it as a period you are inside, and a period has a ruling planet and an end date. Both come out of one number, which is where the Moon stood at the minute you were born. Three things fix the date: which sub-period is running and the day it stops, whether that planet is one your rising sign has a structural problem with, and where Saturn and Rahu sit relative to your birth Moon.
Why does the same planet wreck one person and carry another?
Because what changed is which houses it was handed. For a Libra rising sign Jupiter owns the 6th house of debt, and classical practice puts it on the list of planets that ascendant should not be strengthening. For a Sagittarius rising sign the same Jupiter owns the 1st and the 4th and is the best thing in the chart. The rule is simple enough to apply yourself: whichever planet rules your 6th or 8th house is the one to be careful of, whichever rules your 1st, 5th or 9th is on your side, and where one planet owns a house from each list, the trine wins.
Why does this feel bottomless for me and not for someone else?
Because the raw exposure is not equal. Multiply each ascendant's difficult planets by the years they hold in the 120-year cycle and the spread is wide: a Sagittarius rising carries 30 of the 120 years under a difficult ruler, 25.0%, against a Capricorn rising's 6 years, 5.0%. That is a structural difference between two people born a day apart in the same hospital. It is not a sentence either way, because the share counts only the chapters ruled by a difficult planet and says nothing about the other three scoring terms.
Can a good planet still give me a bad period?
Yes, and the sign distance is usually why. Count from the sign your chapter's ruling planet occupies to the sign your sub-period's ruler occupies: 6, 8 or 12 reads as heavy, 5 or 9 as supported. One worked chart has Saturn as its yogakaraka, the best planet in the chart, and still produced a bottom-quartile stretch because natal Jupiter sits in Libra and natal Saturn in Virgo, 12 signs along. The count between the two overrode the quality of one of them.
Does a 6th lord's period mean going further into debt?
No, and the reason is in the house's own description. The 6th covers debt and competition in the same breath: it is the house of what opposes you and of the fight against it. A sub-period belonging to your 6th lord is the stretch when debt is the live subject, which includes the stretch when it gets fought down. Which of those is happening comes from the rest of the chart rather than from the lordship alone.
How long do these stretches actually last?
Four charts computed on the same morning, all in the hardest quartile of their own ladder, gave 32 months, 56 months, 86 months and 40 months, ending 18 March 2027, 28 March 2027, 20 November 2027 and 14 December 2029. Two end because a chapter turns over and two because a sub-period does. The 86-month case answers why this can feel as though it has no floor: seven consecutive years in the hardest quartile of a life is long enough that a person stops expecting an end, which is the point at which a period gets mistaken for a permanent condition.
What does the turn actually mean when it comes?
The word to attach to it is lifts, not arrives. The bands are relative to each chart's own ladder, because there is no absolute scale to compare a life against, so what changes is that the sub-period stops working against the chapter. Money showing up is a separate event with its own causes, most of which are things you do. Nothing in a period calculation returns a number in rupees, and any reading that hands you one has left the method behind.
What should I do if my date is more than a year away?
Read one level down, because a long wait broken into named stretches is something you can plan around. One worked chart has fourteen months to wait with two clear windows inside it and two stretches to keep clear of, all four dated. Take the smaller income inside the wait rather than holding out, and treat the good windows as the place to renegotiate, refinance or move, since those are the actions whose cost depends most on timing. If the chapter itself is ruled by your difficult planet, build the plan around the good sub-periods inside it rather than around the chapter ending, which could be twelve years out.
What if my birth time is only a family estimate?
Use the date and the place, and accept two limits. Houses get counted from your Moon sign instead of your rising sign, which is the standard fallback and needs only the date. And every period date carries a margin of a season either side: measured across the four worked charts, an hour of error moved every boundary by between 105 and 266 days, scaling with the length of the chapter you were born into. One of those charts sits three minutes from a sign boundary, and crossing it changes which planet the reading names as responsible.
