Griha Pravesh Muhurat 2026: Auspicious Housewarming Dates
Choosing a Griha Pravesh muhurat in 2026: the rooted nakshatras and tithis that suit entering a new home, the months to avoid, and how to find your date.
Griha Pravesh marks the first entry into a new home, so its muhurat favours permanence. The timing leans on fixed, rooted nakshatras for stability and the waxing Moon for steady growth in the years the family will spend there.
What a housewarming date looks for
- Nakshatra. Rooted and gentle stars suit a home: Rohini, Mrigashira, Uttara Phalguni, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada, Chitra, Swati, Anuradha, Revati, Dhanishta and Shatabhisha. Bharani, Krittika, Ardra, Ashlesha, Magha, Moola and Jyeshtha are set aside.
- Tithi and paksha. The waxing fortnight is preferred. The Rikta tithis, Amavasya and Purnima are usually avoided for the entry itself.
- Weekday. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday carry the settled, benefic energy a home wants. Sunday and Tuesday are weaker for entering a house.
- Season. The Uttarayana half of the year, when the Sun moves north, is preferred. The months of Ashadha, Bhadrapada and Pausha, and any Adhik (leap) month, are traditionally skipped.
Finding your Griha Pravesh date in 2026
There are three recognised kinds of Griha Pravesh: Apoorva for a brand-new home, Sapoorva when returning after a long absence, and Dwandwah after repair or renovation. The panchang rules above apply most strictly to a brand-new home.
