Every starting sound used in Vedic baby naming, and the birth star each one belongs to. The Janma Nakshatra — the lunar mansion the Moon occupied at birth — fixes the sound a baby's name traditionally begins with, and each nakshatra owns four of them, one per pada (quarter).

Which sound is yours?

The sound is not chosen from this table — it is read off the baby's chart. Find the Moon's nakshatra and pada from an accurate birth time, and the sound follows from it. The free Vedic Baby Name Finder does that from the birth details and returns names ranked for the exact birth star.

The sound is only half of it

The nakshatra fixes the starting sound; a name that is genuinely in tune also harmonises its Chaldean name-number with the child's birth number (mulank) and destiny number (bhagyank). A name on the right sound with a clashing number is half-aligned. AstroMedha's naming engine checks both at once.

Common questions

How do I know which sound my baby's name should start with?
It is read off the chart, not chosen from a list. The Moon's nakshatra at birth fixes four sounds, one per pada, and an accurate birth time picks which of the four.
Can I use any sound from my baby's nakshatra?
Yes. Without a precise birth time the pada cannot be pinned, and any of the nakshatra's four sounds is considered auspicious.
Does the starting sound matter more than the meaning?
Neither replaces the other. The sound aligns the name with the birth star; the meaning and the name's numerology are what the child carries daily.
