Why one chart is never enough
Your birth chart is a promise. It says a planet is strong, that a part of life is well placed, that a period ought to go well. The divisional charts test that promise one department at a time.
A Jupiter that looks commanding in the birth chart can land in its weakest sign in the D-10 and describe a career quieter than the birth chart advertised. A modest-looking Venus can turn strongest in the D-9 and describe a marriage the birth chart never hinted at. Neither reading is available from the birth chart on its own.
Each division has its own subject. The D-2 is read for money and resources, the D-4 for home and property, the D-7 for children, the D-10 for career and public standing. The D-12 is read for parents, the D-24 for education, the D-27 for stamina, the D-30 for the troubles a chart is prone to, and the D-60, the finest division of all, for what a person seems to arrive already carrying.
This is also why the birth time matters more here than anywhere else. The D-60 cuts each sign into sixty pieces of half a degree, and the Moon crosses half a degree in about an hour. A chart cast from a remembered time is worth casting. A chart cast from a recorded one is worth trusting.

What is a divisional chart (varga)?
A divisional chart splits each of the twelve zodiac signs into equal parts and re-maps every planet into a new sign, so one area of life can be read on its own. The D-10 divides each sign into ten and is read for career. The D-7 divides it into seven and is read for children. Your birth chart shows what is promised; a divisional chart shows whether that promise holds when you look only at that one department.
Which divisional charts does this calculate?
Sixteen of them: D-2 Hora, D-3 Drekkana, D-4 Chaturthamsha, D-5 Panchamsa, D-7 Saptamsha, D-8 Ashtamsa, D-10 Dasamsha, D-12 Dwadasamsa, D-16 Shodasamsa, D-20 Vimsamsa, D-24 Chaturvimsamsa, D-27 Bhamsa, D-30 Trimsamsa, D-40 Khavedamsa, D-45 Akshavedamsa and D-60 Shashtiamsa. The D-9 Navamsha is not in this list because it has its own dedicated calculator.
Do I need my exact birth time?
For these charts, more than for anything else. The D-60 divides each sign into sixty parts of half a degree each, so a planet can cross into the next part in about a minute of birth time. Without a time this tool still gives you every planet's divisional sign from the date alone, but it will not show a rising sign, because we will not print one we did not compute.
What does dignity mean here?
The same thing it means in your birth chart: whether a planet sits in a sign it rules, a sign it is strongest in, a sign it is weakest in, or none of those. A planet that looks weak in your birth chart but strongest in the D-10 often does better in working life than the birth chart alone suggests, and the reverse is just as true.
What does “same as D-1” mean next to a sign?
D-1 is your birth chart, the undivided one. That tag means the planet sits in the same sign in the divisional chart as it does in the birth chart, which traditionally strengthens it. It is not the same thing as vargottama, a word reserved for a planet holding its sign between the birth chart and the D-9, so we do not use that word here.
